I always thought that psy-trance was trance

I consider to be a subgenre of trance

do you think sasha puts in an ambient track in ableton and lets it beatmatch automatically? i've got no clue what so ever how does it work, but i'm pretty sure it has some way of monitoring tracks and lets him adjust the beatmatching manually! therefore, computers let dj's beatmatch as well as you can with vinyl, plus they can aid you when they recognize the tempo

as for the joof is not trance argument, well you win the DUH! award 2005. as stated 23189047389279 before, psy is a subgenre of trance. and he's barely playing any progressive anymore

oh and to actually contribute to this thread, my fav dj is zabiela, followed close by holden. not really the best in the world objectively though

I know that Tiesto listed as number 1. But how many of you actually think that he is number 1. I believe so because he was awesome live. His mixing has been slipping (my opinion)from his Magik and ISOS days but I believe it is still good.

I have been listening to PVD as of late and his mixing, I believe, is right on the mark.

Who do you think is number one?

If you dont like the subject, Just dont post. I am trying to get a feel for what people really think. I dont want to hear about how stupid I was for posing this question. I tried doing a search but I didnt come up with an answer for my question.

yes very true, for last time you can not say who the hell is the best dj. it is a matter of personal opinion and how u connect with the dj and the music they r communicating. there is no such thing as the best dj. look i know what u r trying to say but just belive me.
AND I DONT MEAN TO BE RUDE TO YOU!!.
TIESTO IS ONLY RATED ON HOW POPULAR HE IS WITH PEOPLE, THIS IS DONE THROUGH DJ MAGAZINE EVERY YEAR AND PEOPLE VOTE.(I THINK YOU MIGHT KNOW THIS ALREADY)

Best Traditional DJ: (2-3deck mixing + some effects) Frank Lorber. has to be the sharpest mixer i've ever head. track selection was the best ever last summer when i saw him, a mix of minimal techno/electro/tech-house/german techno, with tracks of new and old.

Best/Smoothest Mixing: Sasha (i don't care what you want to call him, but the last time i saw him he was on CDs and vinyl, and it was the smoothest shit ever)

Best Technical Ability: James Zabiela (anyone who argues it can kiss my ass.)

Best Crowd Connection/All Around Party DJ: Lee Burridge. when he is on spot, NO ONE can touch him.

Most Innovative "DJ": Richie Hawtin/Plastikman. aside from being a true vanguardist, his music kicks ass.

What the **** is going on here??

What's trance??
Its techno & house & progressive & "Trance" and perhaps even rock or other (listen to The Doors or such). Trance is a feeling, emotion, different to everyone's mind.

And: Often what is called trance around here normally I would definitely not call trance. Just "melody" doesn't mean it's trance, often melody means its NO trance.

You can call what Sven Väth plays "Techno", some call it "Schranz", I would call it trance (to my ear). Is Alter Ego "Rocker" "techno" or "house" or "trance" or "progressive"??

But the silliest thing I ever heard is to say "Psytrance" is no "Trance". Who says that hasn't understood anything about what this kind of music ("Trance") is about.
These people should admit that they are POP-listeners and check chart-entrys every week.

Best you can say about this is what PvD says: Its ELECTRONIC MUSIC.

my favourite dj: Graham Gold

best in my opinion is someone like Dave Clarke, the nature of trance means it isnt very technical so its hard to seperate djs technically.

ALSO
J00f is most certainly trance

Ory you are an ignorant twat

Yeah but you could say that about all DJs. I don't think there's one DJ out there who plays exclusively one genre. Eventually, everyone plays tracks from different genres. Yet, DJs are categorized by what they play the MOST.
