Real energy is at 143-145, and trance can still sound good at 146 or higher (aka the end of Push's set at his first Spundae appearance, anyone? Faster trance set I've ever heard played in a club - and I confirmed he was at 146BPM).

A good track is still a good track if it's played faster. In a lot of cases, a rather mediocre track can turn into a kick ass monster simply by playing it faster.

If you can't handle 145BPM, there are always the puddles to relax in.......

How the fuck do you dance to 140bpm+??

Unless you consider jumping up and down constantly dancing...

Here's my two cents about making a club 18+ or 21+....

First off, I was not at Heaven, so I will not comment on that. But, from past experiences, a club turns 18+ when they are hurting financially. If a club owner wants to make money, 21+ will do the trick. He will make money from bar sales. At a club I work, we made more money with 100 people 21+, then with 400 that are 18+. The problem with keeping a trance club 21+ in LA alive, is that LA doesn't have a strong enough 21+ scene to support the lesser-known trance acts. Yes, your PVD's, Armin and Ferry's will sell out, but your MIKE, Solarscape won't! If you turn the tables around and make the club 18+, the club will obviously be more packed, but bar sales won't be as high as it was with a 21+. With that, more likely some door money will go to compensate for the bar guarantee.

Typically, 21+ promoters keep ticket sales and the club keeps bar sales unless, there is a rent, bar guarantee or another arrangement.

On the other hand, 18+ promoters usually pay rent, split security costs, which cause the promoter's overhead to go out the roof and cutting into its profits. Off course, those are just two scenarios. There are numerous more such as promoters getting paid to promote, the club financing the entire evening, splitting everything 50-50, pay rent and more. It all depends on the venue.

That's why I can see why Leon would want to go back to 21+. I'm sorry, but a 21+ club is a lot less hassle, a lot easier to run, and less liability than that of an 18+. Don't even get me started with an all ages event.

Another problem doing an 18+ club is that you will loose a percentage of that 21+ crowd that can potentially be drinking at the bar, thus loosing money. 18+ will just pay the admission price but will typically not consume more then 2 drinks, either a soda or water. Water and Sodas are cheap compared to alcohol. A club typically mark's up its drinks between 500% and 1000%, depending on the night of the week. That's why water will cost you $4 compared to a mixed drink that will range between $7 and $10. Even more if you go to HOB!

Anyhow, I can keep going on, but I just wanted to show you guys some of the economics that go on behind the scenes of running a club. Hopefully you guys will get a better idea now and stop getting upset at Leon for making business decision that can be fatal to his game.

I came in with not much expectation about the club since it was a grand opening.

Cons:-Yea the line fiasco really got annoying, VIP took so long to get in that is just not a way to go please fix that. -The dancing in circle was really annoying too. -The sound need to be a bit clearer and less banging. -The fact that Acosta did not close was weird.

Pros: -Lighting was pretty tight. –The crowd was good -The vibe was ok. -Security was courteous. -The men bathroom was alright (went 3 times and did not have to wait) –The smoking area was ok.

Musically this was a fun night for me I dance all true Acosta set, but it was not something I would remember. Acosta is a fun dj and I always have a good time nothing more. (Let’s just say the cheese was the trader Joe’s Brie and I like Brie but I prefer Camambert)
Taylor set was boring for me until he played Mr. Brightside.

As far the 18 vs. 21 I don’t really care and understand both side of the fence. I do agree about the younger crowd energy.
But I’m the opinions if you go to a club don’t act like if you go to a rave (do not dance in circle, crazy glow sticks shows, dress up a bit, act like you can handle your drug or alchool…)

as far as I know we didnt have VIP at all on opening night... so I am confused as to why everyone keeps complaining about this "vip line"..

i also thought it was strange he didnt close, but im not going to turn down to opportunity to play to a happy jumpin room, so I did.

why a headlining dj would NOT want to play til the end is beyond me...

The problem with the VIP was that after we pay and got our tickets we still have to wait in the line with general admition to get ID check.
We should have been able to get in directly.

Not sure what symbols you talking about? please clarify

You can't possibly be serious. 140 is nothing.

If your feet don't move from the ground, then you're just shaking your ass like you're at hip hop club. lmao!

well, not literally, but he has a good point. MIKE was DEFINITELY over 140 bpm by the end of his set at Spundae, and I was dancing like crazy (and it wasn't the 'old-fobby-people-flailing-at-the-arms' dancing).

JOOF will probably play a majority of his set at 142 imo. At least everything after the first 20 min or so.
