Well I'm offering an open invitation to anybody out there that's interested in seeing what I can do, I'll most definitely be at Scumfrog on the 13th. You can find me there, if you don't know who I am, look for Baki aka trancechaos and he'll tell you how to find me.

***Man I can't wait for Scumfrog, it's sooooo far away from now though, the anticipation is killing me***

Her style is very organic and syymetrical, I guess you can say, makes he look double jointed at every turn, whereas mine is more of a 'swarm' where single lights act 'out of phase' doing the same or similar patterns. Her style makes you say 'what the fuck', where mine will leave you crosseyed.

Awwww...thank you, hon. And I wasn't Detroit's best - just taught by the best. If you check out Dancerman or Uncle Ray or a few other characters here in the D, you'd see where I got my moves from. Ah, the boys who thought it would be cute to teach the girl to be a glowstick ninja....lol

I learned on glowsticks, but they fall too often or get knocked out of your hand (dangerous to whomping peeps in the face) so I switched to LEDs and have just simple blue n green ones (with wristbands attached so as not to lose them/hit people in face). I am looking to get my friend's purple ring LEDs for Danny T.

I use lights for me - not to give shows - if people ask, I give them, or if I see a kid trying to learn, I help them but they're a form of dancing to me that is solely in the realm of electronic music. I know a lot of people diss on lights but I love them. They're an art form and the getting the trick to matching the music beats or flipping them around at crank speeds all the while trying to fit to a pattern in your head...it takes practice and patience. It also gives you a killer arm workout - if I do them too much, I cannot lift crap the next day!

If you see me at Danny T, I'll be sticking my ass off most likely.

Light shows only work if the following conditions are met :

1) The person giving the show actually knows what he/she is doing. Just cause you have some bright lights moving at speed doesn't mean it's going to look good. A well worked routine will be in sync with the beats and move at the right speed where your eyes can follow the traces, and not just be overwhelmed by the glow.

2) The person recieving the light show is in a state of mind where they focus on the lightshow and not get distracted by the reality of how silly they look squating on the floor while someone twirls multicolored lights around them.

I'm an ex-lightshow giver so i'll always have a soft place in my heart for people who enjoy it. Bottom line, it's not for everyone. I think a lot of clubber hate lights because they've had experience with some overzealous light kid who couldn't wait to show them a new variation of the standard 8...

People who actually work on their moves are capable of pulling out some amazing stuff. It's more like batton twirling then dancing...but hey, it sure does look cool when you're in an elevated state of mind.

You know Danny hates Lights right ?

Not that it should matter...but I know he's one of those house DJ's who feels lights (glowsticks, leds, etc) belong at a rave...not in the warehause.

For those of you that enjoy lightshows, what makes them so good?

The only thing I find of value when it comes to lightshows, is the fact that if I pull my camera out and photograph them in long shutter mode, the picture'll prolly look cool.

You'd have to be high to enjoy them really...

After post whoring on this thread all afternoon I went out looking for a replacement pair, and those purple ones were top of the list.
Had it down to 3 models:

red or green lights, 3 types of brightness, 3 types of strobing effects

same kind I had before, ribbon of blue-->green-->red, nothing adjustable, but the cool thing about them was the unmoving light was white.

or the UV purple ones.

can't quite decide whether or what yet.

Lightshows were really cool when I first started partying. I still think ppl that can dance with those glow sticks and other light objects are wickked. But to sit there and be given a lightshow...meh! I would rather be dancing!

Personally I like using glowsticks, or some variation and if someone is really good at them will watch them while they are doing it.
I'm not really into getting super in your face of someone doing it though, I'd rather just watch from a distance and appreciate the way they move.

Im kinda with ya... i often enjoy dancing w/ glowsticks, but i dont get hardcore with them and am not good. they are just like props, something i can have in my hand whihc accentuates my dancing for short periods of time... i never seem to dance w/ them all night in fulleffect.

i enjoy getting lightshows just for fun... its just something different to do for 5-10 mins of the night i also tho like watchign ppl as u said from a few feet back where im dancing and seeing the crazy stuff they doing, so that was, as Kelly said, I can keep dancing too while watching!!!

I have been trying to find the multi-color ones but to no avail. Not many places carry them here in the D - might just order them online next week instead. The LEDs I use are straight color that I got from when I was an outdoor gear buyer. Purple is a hard color to find but it can be ordered - the rings my friend has are awesome. They strobe too!

And, well, if Danny dosen't like it, oh well. I'll still be dancin'!

hi newbie question here.
what exactly are the lights called where you can make it seem that the lights are jumping from hand to hand, through your body, and at the touch of your fingers? are they ring leds? thanks in advance!
