no doubt she's got ambitions of her own...I've not her biggest fan...but I do prefer her to Harper, no question.

She saw an oppportunity...she saw Harper as incompetent to lead the Conservatives to an election win...she bailed.

tacky? yes. potentially cause for concern for her constituents? yes. Will ALL of them be upset? NO. Many people vote for the indiviudual, not the party. She's wouldn't be the first person to bail on her original party and maintain the support of her constituents.

name escapes me...but who jumped from the Liberals to the NDP not too long ago? Same shit...except the timing of this move could sink the Conservative plans to unseat the gov't.

good.

I don't think she would have changed parties if she thought that the Conservatives had a chance at winning an election. In fact, the conservative election drive has been losing steam for a while. This move is probably an attempt by Stronach to gain more political clout (ie: joining the largest party in a time of need, where her help would indirectly maintain the liberal majority). Stronach probably sees a greener future in the liberal party.. I wouldn't bet on it though.

The last thing we need is another PM from Quebec. They've been in power for almost 40 years (with some minor interruptions).

Also, Harper is from Ontario as far as I'm concerned. He was born in Toronto, and spent 19 years there. You can't just write off the west, an entire region of Canada. That's dangerous for national unity.

I'm not writing off the west but it is something that the CPC needs to contend with. A large number of Ontarians view Harper exactly as I described him. I'm not saying they are right or it is true but it is a hurdle for the Conservatives.

My remarks about a Quebecer were tounge in cheek, however, I do believe that the CPC would do much better in Ontario if they had a different leader, someone who isn't seen as having a gripe against the east.

oh, I agree with you there (except that last part )

I would guess that this move was made as a result of her own personal ambitions, with her potential disenfranchisement with Harper's leadership as secondary (but not irrelevant, IMHO).

If there was a snap election called she might be afraid of loosing her ridership?
She did just squeak in to begin with: http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/riding/160/
But why anchor yourself to a sinking ship??

It's not a matter of whether or not Canadians WANT an election, it's that we NEED one.

Have we become that jaded towards politics, rather than put ourselves out for an election we'll just keep going with blatent thieves?
It's like the story about the old dog howling on the porch because of a nail poking it, but wouldn't move because it was too lazy to...

Belinda recently financed a cigar room in her house...it was completed just before Clinton recently visited Toronto to promote his book...hmm...coincidence? I think NOT!!!

Jay, for the last couple of months all I've been hearing is your
discontent for the Liberal party yet I don't think you've take any pro-action as of yet, just what your ass feels the Canadian gov't should do about the whole sponsorship scandal and now Stronach switching sides. The way I see it if Stronach is really at odds with Harper than I see really no point in her supporting a party that she does not believe in. No offence, but it's time you either put up or shut up.

Sadly i dont have the money to run for office or i would. Running for office is now reserved for only the rich elite of this country.

As for stronach, the most moral and correct approach would have been for her to resign or at least sit as an independent. Instead she took the bribe to serve her ego and is now a high level cabinet minister. I think there must be just as many betrayed fuming members of the Liberal party at this moments as there are conservatives. This isnt good for either party, its only good for paul martin and belinda stronach.
