My aim was arriving at an intellectual defence on my favourite genre of trance against the common criticisms that are levelled against it. My apologies for those who have failed to understand this aim. There is nothing wrong with the use of language in doing so, and the title merely reflects that of “In defence of history” by Richard Evans. People might comment that history does not need a defence in the same way that some posts have said that trance does not any riposte against continual attacks. I find the comments about using thesaurus.com etc amusing to say the least! As for my previous comment – that was merely a joke – nothing personal intended.
The more pertinent objections to my original post involve the fact that there is indeed blind loyalty towards certain trance producers. I have never doubted that some people will love DJs like Tiesto, regardless of what he might produce, but I think that trance should be loyalty blind; each production viewed on its own merit. This is what I meant by “pure”.
If anyone else wishes to mount a defence of trance in an intellectual way by all means do so, but to say any defence is unnecessary is, at best, a misguided position.

The thing that makes me a little curious is to why you actually felt that trance needed defending on a forum that actually is for people who favour this kind of music in the first place?
I agree with you whole heartedly in your views with regards to 'blind loyalty' but very often that is something that I attribute to age rather than anything else. As people get older their views and beliefs tend to expand (Sadly not in some cases it has to be said).
Something I have learned is that there is very little point in actually making a structured arguement on these forums for the most part, as you will regretably have some half wit who thinks he 'ownz' you just because he/she throws in a one liner to close the arguement for good.
Just because we all speak English does not mean we 'talk the same language' as it were which is clear especially with some of the comments made earlier. The thing about English is that many countries have 'adopted' (through force or otherwise) it but it's only natural that cultural (Or lack there of depending on how you look at it ) aspects will influence how a language is both spoken and written.
