IN RESPONSE TO TAG AND ELIE
Very interesting thread. Really made me think and subsequently spent easily 3 hours putting this post together in a coherenet and non-verbally abusive fashion - that's not my style anyways. I hope you take the time to read it as I would like to clarify a few things - those who seek the truth prefer fact over fiction..........
TAG - your quote below.....

so nOObish itself upon reading - and TAG you have also just turned 19 - as your profile states (if true) - so in the big scheme of things trance-wise - YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A NOOB PERIOD unless you were into this music since you were 6 (circa 1993).....the year I started listening to stuff on HartHouse/Rising High and EYE-Q records out of Germany.
you poked your head into the Toronto forums and spewed a post akin to this one and got BURNED by the TOTA's (wish I could find the thread - but it wont let me do a search on 3 letters for(TAG) - oh well - but regardless - now you hate us apparantly and Toronto itself??? or so it seems .....
(I am guessing this - for because shorty there after the TOTA burn) something clicked enough for you to change your avatar from your own facial pic to this robot thingy picture?? - don't be afraid of the TOTA's we wont come and get you - just be yourself and watch what you post....all things take time - just learn some tact.
I HATE THE WORD NOOB - BUT PEEPS LOVE TO THROW THIS DEROGATORY WORD AROUND THESE FORUMS.........SO TO PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE
Well nOOb is as nOOb does - we have ALL been a nOOb at one point in time - some FRIENDLY advice (I learned this too) educate yourself and your posts will not come across this way (nOObish) - read through these forums - reflect and realize that a great many people who post on here have a deep knowledge of the scene in both Toronto and Montreal and are not afraid to stick up for their scenes with FACTS instead of PETTY conjectures - as I am trying to do here with this post.
No hard feelings TAG - please - I am only offering some FRIENDLY advice based on some observations I have made while reading these forums myself....but
Please read on......
ELIE
I have quite a few issues to clarify and point out from your posts too - see below......

The venue was huge, but WAKKKK! I did not understand the concept of putting 5 clubs together but to get from one to another, it was left, right, up , right, down the stairs, around the corner and there you go you are in the house room. And all the hallways and stairways were ONE WAY so to get back where you previously just were, you had to do the whole circle all the way around. |
there are actually NINE clubs/bars/lounges inside the Guvernment (hence the term complex) TEN if you count the tent set-up outside for Labour of Love only.......and with this many rooms in one COMPLEX - there will be a complex array of ways to get around - makes sense really - but as Magikb said - traffic has to move in one direction mainly in order to have flow - I have been there when this is not the case and it is UTTER CHAOS!!! Ya it sucks sometimes to get from KoolHaus to the Guv (takes a good 15 minutes)- but hey I made it around the complex 4 times that night without too much problem (once because my friends asthma was acting up and 3 other times because we wanted to catch Diggers in the Guv and Demi on the SkyBar and the final moments of Deep Dish in the morning in the Guv again). Believe me THIS YEAR WAS ONE OF THE MOST ORGANIZED ARRAY OF MOVEMENTS SCHEDULES BY BOUNCERS AND STAFF EVER.....be thankful it was not like 3 years ago....

THANK GOD FOR THE MUSIC. Blank & Jones played and Armin played the best 6 hours of music I have ever heard, it was amazing, incredible ... too bad the only people I had to share it with were the band of sour apples surrounding me. I would scream "Great SOng!" they would look back at me with disgust, WTF??? |
I can (TOTA)lly agree with you on this point - THE MUSIC WAS SICK!!! I myself found myself dancing like a crazy mofo - and if you know me like the other TOTA's do (and I am sure to the annoyance of the sour apples around me) I am constantly cheering on the DJ's with my WIKKID WIKKID - BRING IT UP BRING IT UP chants!! And ya sure people give me a look or 2 - so what! - PEOPLE CHEER at concerts and that is exactly what this event is like (or any DJ gig for that matter) a concert experience - so I would have been personally glad to have you next to me shouting the same encouragement - lord knows - when you time it right - you can send a wave of people following your lead and echoing your same sentiments - it is quite contagious I have found - you start the WOOT WOOT - and sure enough someone picks it up and so on until everyone is cheering - AWESOME FEELING for sure (as you well know because you do it yourself
Twice that night in my exhuberence I exclaimed aloud - "YOU PEOPLE DIDNT SPEND 60 BUCKS TO STAND AROUND!! - BRING IT UP BRING IT UP!!" -and that actually put smiles on some faces and made them dance harder - I am all about bringing energy to a party - whether through my dancing skillz (I got some pretty WIKKID WIKKID moves yo!) or through some well timed CHANTS........heck it is how some people even know I am at the club - when they hear me exclaim WIKKID WIKKID - BRING IT UP BRING IT UP! during the breakdowns and build-ups (so I have been told )......anyways I digress........KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK TRYING TO PUMP PEOPLE UP - SOME DEFINITELY NEED IT.......and the beats played that night should have automatically been making people freaking out - but meh....maybe they nicked a bad pill - who knows - who CARES!!

Oh yea, what is with the camera's ?? Everyone had camera's and were snapping pictures... I weas actually asked suring the Armin set to move out of the way so someone could get a good picture. |
what's with the cameras????? WTF!!!!! - CAMERAS ARE AWESOME AT THESE KIND OF EVENTS and you know it.....as you so retracted your statement when MAGIKB pressed you on it. A wonderful way to capture the memories of a truly awesome night with your mates and in case you get to fucked up (in a good way) to remember everything. And if someone asked you to move (they were probably just tripping out and were excited - so cut some slack) or maybe you were just standing there and in that instance I would ask you to move too as you are for one taking up prime dance space (standing is only aloud at the sides of the club - its a rule I think) and two someone maybe had a good opportunity to snap an awesome shot so why should you be the one to keep that from happening. Maybe - who knows - I wasn't there - just trying to think about why this bothered you so much.
THANK YOU FOR THE PICTURESQUE MOMENTS LABOUR OF LOVE 3

SEE PEOPLE SMILING - ARENT WE FUN PEEPS - TOTA'S RULE!!!!!!!
Which leads me to these 2 quotes of yours perfectly........

The people: I cannot beleive such a crowd of unhappy, sour, annal people could exist. Maybe it's cause I am from Montreal and everyone here is so fucking nice and happy and receptive to smiles or anything of the sort, but I was actually scared at one point to look people in the eyes because NO ONE WOULD RESPOND TO EVEN A SIMPLE SMILE! The only people I talked to all night were other Montrealers who were also having the worst night of their lives. |
WORST NIGHT OF YOUR LIVES - pfft! - That sounds a tad over-dramatic - unless you o'd or were puking - lost your wallet - or saw some one get shot (as apparantly ARIA experienced recently) it couldn't have been the WORST night of your lives and if it was - you guys have a huge part of that responsibility falling on yourselves. Dont blame the crowd - blame it on the DJ (HAHA- from your sig).
It is true Toronto is a colder crowd - whether that has to do with massive immigration into the city and segregation of groups and cultures trying to lay claim to what they think is their turf - maybe we have a big ego and chip on our shoulder because we are TORONTO - who knows - but yes in comparision the preteniousness is not as rampant in Montreal clubs and social scene (UNLESS YOU DRESS LIKE SHIT - THEN MONTREAL CAN BE CRUEL!! FASHION FASHION) - kudos to Montreal for that and especially with their gay scene.......Toronto would change their scene for Montreals - ANYDAY.
So ya key is to hang with like-minded people in TO and you will be ok - NEXT TIME POST IN THE TOTA FORUMS YOU ARE COMING - was mentioned earlier in this thread by a few of us......we will welcome you no problem with that!!

So the running joke was to gather together every so often and make fun of things we saw ... |
So you are mocking us then........you want us to treat you with respect and kindness while we are the butt of your BIG JOKE - not cool! Maybe people noticed your contempt and just threw it right back at ya?? Ya never know......

Meanwhile I am DANCING MY ASS OFF because B&J are killing me with the hardest beats I have ever heard |
GOOD FOR YOU!!!! B&J KILLED IT THAT NIGHT!! GOOD BEATS!!! SPEAKING OF DANCING YOUR ASS OFF - SO WAS I AND ABOUT 50 OTHER TOTA'S FRONT ROW CENTRE WOOT! WOOT! and a GOOD DOZEN or so at the side of the KOOL HAUS - this room is by far the biggest room in the complex and if you wanted to dance you could always find space......like Magikb said.

After 4, everyone in the room became e-tarded. But still not smiling, I didn't get it. |
Very rushy/mashy pills perhaps - I became E-tarded before 4 tho - more like 2:15 but I was smiling the whole time - thank god for pure MDMA and the TOTA posse - this combo always guarantees to bring a smile to yo face

Moment #1: I was walking through one of the rooms with a stereo t-shirt on and these 2 girls run up to me screaming "OMG WE KNOW THE PLACE STEREO, YOU KNOW IT???!?!" I walked right through them saying "never heard of the place..." it was a funny moment. |
Another example of where you are a guest in our city and expect us to treat you like one (as if we even knew - you didnt tell anyone you were coming) - those girls MIGHT have generally been interested in your shirt and excited to meet you and would have partied with you because of a common connection and lords knows what else could have happened in a FUN WAY - but - instead you choose to use the moment to snicker and sneer at "TORONTO PEOPLE" and might have potentially rubbed some people rough on "Montreal people" - NICE AMBASSADORS - NOT COOL!! joke or not.....

Thank god we didnt pay to get in (THANK YOU DEMI)
Even demi after his set came up to me and my friends with a "this is a very motivating crowd" in total sarcasme. |
YOU LUCKY BASTARD IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY (33) AND I STILL HAD TO PAY REDUCED TO GET IN...........SO FOR FREE YOU WENT TO A PARTY THAT SHOWCASED SOME OF THE BEST SETS OF MUSIC YOU EVER HEARD (you said so yourself - quoting you). That must REALLY SUCK!!!! LOL!
And DEMI - why would he say that - that is too bad.....True of the 3 D's on the GUV bill (DEMI - DIGWEED - DEEPDISH) he is the least known and the first opener - I am sure that Markus Shultz felt like crap next to B&J and ARMIN comparitively too - tho Demmi and Shultz they both played good sets. I dont think DEMI was talking about the SKYBAR crowd because he was rocking it out up there and I had friends that were up there with him and he was smiling away having a good ol time - and if he was saying "the crowd may have been less motivated" it is only because on JUNE 20 2005 - ONE OF THE BEST PARTY NIGHTS IN TORONTOS HISTORY - SASHA AND LAWLER PLAYED BACK TO BACK ON THE SKYBAR and for many of us OUR MINDS WILL NEVER GET OVER AND WILL ALWAYS COMPARE ANY SET ON SKYBAR TO THAT ONE - and Demi is good BUT NOT SASHA AND LAWLER BACK TO BACK GOOD - you have to give me that one...MANY OF THE DDTT TOTA's were impressed with DEMI and were quite excited about his double billing essentially by playing twice in one night.

PS: Boa closed. Does that mean the scene is dead!? |
NOT DEAD - SHE IS JUST REVIVING PREPARING FOR HER NEXT INCARNATION - BOA IS COMING BACK VERSION 3!!!!!! And the Toronto Scene never really died - just got lugged down with too many barnacles from being moored to only on pier for so long (INDUSTRY) once that folded - the ship she sank a little - but there were a few rescue boats that have get things lively and afloat......

Anyway, don't join the scene, make the scene, right? Dancing wildly only requires one pair of feet... |
I like the way this guy thinks - Elie take note - as with above....

simply put
U NEEDED TO MEET UP WITH THE TOTA DAMMIT!!!
hahahaaa |
NADA one of our TOTA BEACONS!!!! - she speaks the truth - I HAD THE BEST TIME EVER AT THE GUV ON A LABOUR DAY WEEKEND - and this year marked my 7th.....It was a massive house party called Summer's End before that. U NEEDED TO MEET UP WITH THE TOTA DAMMIT!!! These words keep echoing throughout this post.......could be some logic there.

heres the important part of my review, and it has nothing to do with the music, the venue, or how crowded it was etc....
i went to this party, without "going with someone specific" yeah sure i got a ride with anthony, but we didnt leave together, or party together for most of the night, mostly with all the TA's - so no matter where i went, i was with someone, i went to this party alone, but i wasnt alone, i was with EVERYONE, with the crowd and part of the party. something i have never felt before. |
My dear Shane - he is a nOOb (to the Guv) - 19 - but has been signed up with TOTA since 2001/2002 - if you knew him - this post is not some random e-tarded comment. There was an awesome energy there that night if you allowed yourself to feel it - granted 150 TOTA's kinda helped but we were only part of the experience that made this event for him so much fun - and for him I am so happy his first experience there was a good one!!! Mine was to - same space but different name - RPM (CIRCA 1991)

id just like to take this opportunity to say that i heart guvy, and i would cry if it closed.
|
And Pet - well he loves Mark Oliver - as most of Toronto's trance scene does a world class style DJ who spins almost every week for us for 10 bucks!! WIKKID DEAL!!!! He would probably more than cry if GUV closed he'd probably chop his ears off so as to never hear another sound again - and so for that alone GUV cannot close - for there are many more WHITEROOM tracks for us and PETTISCOOL in the near future!!!!
| quote: | Originally posted by house_conXion
Well apparently you didn't hear what they were spinning from 5am onwards. That was some of the most dirtiest, sickest beats being laid down. Sure Deep Dish have their off nights but at LoL they just absolutely killed it.
Know the facts before you talk shit next time | [IMG]
THIS IS SO FREAKIN TRUE - I got in the club at 9:00 PM and left at 10:30 AM - if it was not for the extremely hard and twisted pyscho disco beats from 8-10:30 I would have left the building already well spent from a night of massive footworking on the dancefloor.....but even as NADA, MAGIKB and MYSELF tried to sit down and begged - please start playing some shitty music so we can go home already - THAT NEVER HAPPENED - "SLEEP DISH" pulled a proverbial JACK "HAMMER" RABBIT out of there proggy house ass and destroyed us to former bits and pieces of ourselves. IT WAS A BRUTAL ASSUALT - BUT HOLY SHIT - WE TOOK IT LIKE TROOPERS!!!!
Elie - all comments above were mere clarifications and not a personal attack on you - please do not flame - I am flaming enough for the both of us! I hope you come back and give Toronto a chance. We'd love to have ya.
So I end my rant/clarification/education/review thread - (I never posted a proper review for this night in the LOL3 thread) - good thing eh?? I would have been called a nOOb by TAG..........
But alas my birthday usually falls on this weekend every year - so this weekend has even more reason to stay with me in memory and since meeting alot of the people on TA and sharing this years BIRTHDAY extravaganza with them this was by far my best LABOUR DAY BIRTHDAY PARTY ever! From the 3rd Annual TA bbq (what better birthday party could I have asked for) to the Labour of Love event and the after parties with friends - TOTA's are a good bunch of peeps.
Some of you in the Montreal Forums should spend a little less time hating on us and take a cue from some of us and embrace the differences that we all bring to scene and use it make it stronger - not tear down bridges and create divides between 2 of the nicest and culturally diverse cities North America has to offer.
Our scenes tho vastly different in ways - are alike in the fact that we are all people trying to create a world class clubbing scene for ourselves - we are bound to make a few mistakes along the way - but by enlarge we have succeeded................
now back to your regularly scheduled program........au revoir!
