he's right. as a kid, that damn 'im the dad, i said so' shit pisses the hell out of me.

i really messed my dad up when i turned 14 though. he told me i could NOT go to an EDM event. when i asked WHY, he said 'because i said so.'

i reacted to this, in one of my brightest moments in adolescence, by asking the following. "but can you explain it to me please? i mean, after all, you ARE my dad, and whatever you say goes, but in the end, whatever decision you make is only in my best interest, so of course, if you say i shouldn't go, there is a reason, you don't just do it to keep me from having fun, and if you explain it to me, i'll learn and might find out how some things that sound really fun are not that good for me."

i sorta caught him off guard. he was NOT expecting that. so, he started blurting out one crappy cliche after the other, about drugs and whatnot, which i kept refuting. long story short, i went. saw Deep Dish, they kicked much ass back then (not the commercial crap of nowadays). been partying ever since.

i also believe, if your kid does something wrong, you should punish, but punish in a way where he understands what he's done. ie. you make a mess, you clean it up. if i slap the shit out of him every time he makes a mess, not only will he not get why messes suck, but he will hate me. furthermore, if you punish him when he does bad, pay attention and reward him when he does good. i always resented my parents for trying to chew my ass when i dropped from straight As to a B average, after being on honor roll for 6 straight years, and maintaning an A average for another after that. (i transferred to another school). they barely said 'nice' whenever i had a report card, and then, just because my grades drop a bit, they think they can go ballistic on me.

dammit i DID think it was going to be a kinky subject. Anyway, I didn't really get spanked but i got threatened a few times. I don't think it does anything to a child along with other forms of "punishment" except make the child afraid of you. This is something you learn in introduction to psych. the very basic shit.

i got the shit beaten outta me a couple of times as a kid... nothing life-traumatizing tho.

couple of slaps across the face, a lot on the arms/hands/butt.

anyways, i personally dont want to spank my child at all- but if this kid is gettin outta control, you better believe that i'm gonna show the booger who's boss! and besides, if you spank ur child all the time, the kid knows what's coming.. if you only spank him a very FEW times, he knows that he did something especially bad and the situation is serious.

same thing with yelling.. if you yell at the kid all the time, he's just gonna get used to it and ignore you. in essence, you have to choose your battles.

i have a lot of little cousins.. one day i was hanging out with my 13 year old cousin and my 5 year old cousin got really jealous cuz we were talking about stuff she didn't understand i guess.. so later on, the 5 year old went back up to my room and scribbled all over a picture of me and the 13 year old. so i just calmly but firmly said "sabrina...get over here." and i just stared at her without blinking or moving a facial muscle..lil kid knew i was fuckin pissed! then we talked it out.. i hope i can be the same way with my kid...ie, make sure they know i'm pissed and serious and then be able to discuss the issue at hand to make them understand wtf they did wrong..

oh i got spanked until around 10-11. then it was being hit on the arm. then when i reached puberty i started defending myself and blocking all the hits my mom tried to do, and she'd get even more mad, but couldnt do anything about it. i think the last time, we got into a huge fight, and she was trying to hit me, she grabbed my arm, and i pushed her back off me sayin, "get the FUCK OFF me!!!!"

from then, on she never tried to hit me again, and now, she treats me like an adult, though i still respect her and stuff, im old enough to make my own decisions. yeaaaa...

I cant remember what happened. I think my mom thought it was funny.

She did hit my bum with the wooden spoon as I was running past her, & it made me fall over & my front 2 teeth went through my bottom lip. I was bleeding & screaming & mom totally freaked out. I think she felt really bad as she hasn't used it on me for a whole week now!
