I have a harder time fucking up on CDJs than in Ableton. Especially when multiple loops are going, its hard to stay on top of everything, and things can go wrong very quickly. Its also easy to trainwreck...all it takes is some improper warping, or a loop region thats off mark, or a bad track start point and you will have a trainwreck-o-matic in your hands.

In his Pure festival set, the mix from Aftermath into Some Kind Of Freak, the warping is wrong and it wrecks sllightly.

When I saw him in Vegas, a track launch mode was incorrect, and when he dropped it in it was an instant wreck, which he fixed pretty fast.

And Ian, I think its more about you not being too keen on the music sasha plays than his ability.

Gotta check that out - I've listened to this set a billion times. I really love it, but I never noticed that...

edit: just listened to it and you're right. It's clearly noticeable that the beats aren't perfectly lined up. Can't believe I didn't notice this earlier...

tbh mate, going back to the early 90s, sasha has just never ever interested me in the playlists. Carl Cox back in 90-93/4 was great with the oldskool sound, sasha played stuff even then that i didn't enjoy at all, and he's s een by so many as some sort of god or cool person to be into, like life doesn't begin unless you're into him, but I just don't see the fascination at all

me neither. Sasha has done some outstanding mix CDs such as GU009 and GU13 and the Northern Exposure stuff with Digweed but I still can't see where the gloria comes from. Especially considoring that his best productions aren't even produced by himself. It just carries his name. Indeed the EDM scene owes him alot but personally I think there are people out there that done more than him but are not even halfly as praised as him.

But I bet people are easily fooled. A quick look at that TA DJ Top 100 poll clearly showed that. People mix up DJs with producers and vice versa. And in many cases they have very little knowledge of who actually made the tune. Just because Tiesto drops the latest Mark Norman tune doesn't mean he produced it. Alot seem to think so.

Thats all fine with me man, and I agree he does get a bit more credit than he deserves, but alot of people really connect with his music and enjoy the sets he plays, I mean, you cant really say hes a bad DJ.

I'm not gonna sit here and try to convince people to like Sasha, I could give a fuck less if anyone likes him...but I do and I happen to have very similar taste in music as him, so thats that.

And I seriously have similar taste. Its happened quite often where I'll find a track I like, long before I ever hear Sasha play it, and I may use it in a set, and then a few months later I find out he was playing the exact same thing.

Maybe its just because of where I look for music, but all the same...

Anyways, this is my 2 cents.

I respect that mate. My main point goes back to Az's original one, if he's just mixing in abelton before a gig or whatever, that imo is a bit lazy, regardless of who he is. If I were paying to go see a guy i wouldn't expect half of it to be done beforehand, it's the beauty of seeing him 'live'

Yeah I'd be really dissapointed if this is the case. And like I said before, having used ableton alot lately, I'm not impressed so much by what he does with the program, but his mixes are still often very clean and very well executed. And IMO his track selection and programming have been and still are excellent. This can be either very hard or very easy in Ableton, because Ableton is like that, if you want to make it easy you can, but if you want to make it difficult you can aswell.

At least when I saw him last, he was mixing live, in real time. Its very easy to tell if you're playing something pre-recorded, at least for me.

So yeah, Sasha is a lazy fuck, but then, so are most of us. But when he gets into it, the results can be quite nice.

Oh man, a Sasha backlash. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

I can't vouch for his ability with Ableton, but I do find most of what he plays these days incredibly dull, no matter how seamlessly it flows. Thankfully Charlie May et al still have a knack for nice production to the Sasha name.

Out of curiosity, (given your taste in music ) what mixes have you heard that you find dull?
