ok, here is story as i heard it. ... eric managed to gain all credit for the track. even tho he didn't do that much.
are you sure about that? i haven't heard the original bootleg (i think) but if eric "didn't do that much", how come it sounds just like his sound around that time?
anyway, i have an old promo cd (actually promo mp3s) i got from one of his friends a couple of years back, just after he got his first hit "mr jingles". it's pretty cool, he has some cheesy house on there but also some nice attempts at something more electro, in a way a bit ahead of his time..
should post some clips..

i've heard that retarded funk played around with the sample, send it to prydz, he saw the potential and was like 'omg i die this can be good' .. and then they made the track together ..
i heard eric prydz gave dj falcon a handjob around that time and he signed over the rights to the song

because eric didn't do that much. he just touched up the track, added better percussion, made it sound more proffesional.

"Two years ago Eric and producer friends Retarded Funk were working together in the studio when they hit upon the idea of using Steve Winwood’s ‘Valerie’ as the basis for a dance track. Armed with a CDR and keen to test it on the clubbing public, Prydz passed a copy on to DJ Falcon during one of his UK gigs, who immediately made it a regular fixture in his sets. Eric couldn’t have anticipated the stir the track would have: fans clamoured for more information, only for it to be uploaded to an internet site, assumed to be the follow-up to Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon’s ‘So Much Love To Give’ and wrongfully attributed to them."
Omid (proximus) has told me this story several times and he is close friends with both retarded & mafia.

thanks for the sample! sounds awful compared to prydz version. i guess that could be because i've heard eric prydz version a million times and i'm used to it.. they are VERY similar so i guess it's obvious eric basically remixed it and added his sound to it.
i'm going to get those old unreleased mp3s of his i have and post some clips tomorrow.

it's basicly the same track, he just structurally edited it a bit, used better sounds, percussion and then used zee sidechaining

the original has sidechaining as well. it's also not as well produced. the stabs are terrible. bassline isn't as good as the prydz version. basically he re-did the whole thing, using the same sample and ideas from the original. original is out of key at a few places too.. (beginning of the chorus loop)
of course, this is a 96kbps sample so it's hard to hear the details

Great track, little cheesey...yes. Mode Hookers remix owns though.
