To avoid these kind of situations, only the ranking is shown on the Belgian forum, no points. That way you don't know how many points seperate you and the guy in front, and you'll automatically put more effort into the updating etc.. You'll also be more likely and willing to participate in the first place, just to see where you'd end up in the ranking.

See now that's a good idea. But unfortunately it's too late for me to do anything about it now.

Consider the contest shortened.

Yes maybe a week at max would be cool with the amount of 50-60 IDs and if it needs to be several weeks then there should be a whole lot more IDs to make up for the longer period of time. And then one status update in the halfway but like suggested, with no scores so the contestants after the 1st won't get THAT disappointed when they see how much more points he/she has than the rest by that time and can keep up the interest for competing.

I still don't quite see myself entering the contest tho.. but maybe if it really would be only a week / contest.. maybe then i would try to put up some ID guesses.

yeah. i thought about that myself too and i think it's a brilliant idea. still i think the first results shouldn't be posted too early.

and [MaRt], IMO this thread is in no way against you or your contest. i actually thought Floorfiller made this thread because you wondered why so few people entered your contest. i have nothing against the way you're doing it at least, but i still feel there's stuff that could be improved on in every future contest. it's been going pretty much the same way (with minor changes) for as long as i can remember now.

oh and about the lenght, i think 1 month is good. 2 weeks is way too fast IMO. you might miss the contest pretty easily even if it's only 2 weeks IMO. but it seems that that's just me as i'm slow at doing everything and always busy with too much stuff to do!

OR another idea to spice things up.

Day 1. Post 30 samples. Put up scoreboards etc.

Day 10. Post 30 NEW samples.

In the end, score the full 60 samples.

Putting new samples up halfway through would spice it up a bit more

I did have the idea of putting some more trance samples up halfway through the contest, but I think 60 is so many already that it wouldn't be appreciated.

the basic idea is fine as it is, making it shorter is a good step but aside from that, it's always hit & miss at the line. Do you make it too easy, too hard, try to go in the middle etc? the problem is everyones tastes are so diverse nowadays & at times that can alienate some, but at others I think we need to force-sand leaper to retire & we'll have good contests where anyone can win
