Well I've decided this is gonna be my motivational thread. Every time I'm pissed off with university work I'll just look at your studio and it'll remind me of what I'm aiming for (apart from quality fanjita of course!)

I must admit I was pretty sceptic about how the result would become when you first started the thread. But after checking it out a little now and then I must say I am damn impressed, really nice work Diginerd! Really Awesome!!

Well, if we ever ID your house, you can bet me and some TAs will come over with some swag sacks and just pillage the place. I call dibs on the Microwave XT

Also, the comfy chair and the keyboard stand is mine. Nobody steal the chair. I leave the JP and the crapple macs for the rest of you to squabble over.

Let me answer a few Q's first before more pics...

Derivative - Yup that chair is very comfy. Comfort in a studio cannot be overstated.. Though I agree on the MicroWave XT, I'd think you'd want the keyboard more than the stand.. ;-)

Leng - I used to be a full-time professional audio engineer, who got into "Ghost production" for a bunch of house tracks, and then I discovered trance. That was around 1993-2001. I then go married and we had a kid. This prompted a re-evaluation of everything, and I started working for "The Man" as a network engineer. We couldn't deal with London + Child, so we wound up taking a drastic step and moved to the USA (Work sponsored the visa & Green card). Now we're just about stable I'm getting back into production again. Albeit as a (serious) hobby, although I'm planning on getting some new tracks out there under a whole new persona. It's going to be interesting, I've not been a studio properly for at least 3 years!

MysticalNinja - Hope it's in jest, if not then when you're done please get back on the shortbus with the other glass lickers. To be clear there isn't a piece of gear in the studio (apart from my PC) that is less than 3 years old, and most has been gathered over my career before we moved to the USA. My most beloved synth if it were human would be old enough to drink over here...

Ok, pics next post..

Diginerd,

So how did your family appreciate this long lasting construction work: happy to have you back?

BTW: who of you TA'ers also have kids? Me, I have a son (3 years old) and a daughter due in August. Hooray! Less time to spend on the music in the coming months tho ( you know, feeding every 2 hours and stuff). But hell, it's more than worth it. I love my kid('s), only downside is when I'm in the studio during the day my boy wants to come and watch his Bob the Builder vid on my PC ;-)

Come to think of it: Diginerd, obviously you're somewhat of a Bob too!

Excellent job on the studio! Congrats. And a pleasure reading this thread. Thanks to all for your contributions to it.

Funny, I'm really a Rob(ert)!.

Anyway, here's what I think will be the final installment with Pics (unless someone requests pics of something specific).

So without further ado, here's the back of the desk after it got all hooked up:-

My friend came over with a bunch of testing gear and CDs and we did a 4 hour room tuning session. It turned out the CaraCAD models were pretty accurate, so doubly reccomend it to anyone trying to do something similar..

All the room needed was high and upper mid dampening to get it sounding very sweet. The soundstage is massive and defined, poor tracks stick out like sore thumbs and great ones sound awesome. Couldn't ask for anything more.

So Here's a couple of shots with the treatment up.

This one is of the racks, you can see the treatment, my CDs and my didge.

The rear wall has a lot of double thickness high density foam on it.

Just to note, most rooms the biggest problem is bass trapping, not HF damping, which is what this room needs.

All the treatment is currently fastened with double sided tape, but now I know what's needed I'll mount the foam to particle board and screw it to the wall.

So finally...

Gear PR0N!

Sorry I had to induldge (X posted to pics of your studio thread)

Looking towards the monitors

Back towards the computer screens over the desk

and of course the shiny racks with Das Blinken Lights!

It's been fun to build, but it's going to be more fun working in there..

I do have a final 20-30 hours (Estimated) of setup and shake down, where absolutely everything gets tested and all my templates updated.

Bugger that reminds me, I never posted how I did the patchbay. If anyone's actually interested let me know, otherwise I think we're done!

I'm happy to answer questions about any aspect of this, or any Qs on anything your working on doing, but other than that I think I'm done posting on this.

Thanks for reading..
