i would agree oliver lieb is great but picotto started in the mid to late 80s under the wing of top italo disco producers. HE continued to revolutionize both Euro house, progressive eurodance and Unique trance style that would be foundational for alot of modern day abstract techno.

Just looking at trance picotto's done a significant amount

bakerloo symphony
lizard
iguana
ultimora ibiza
komodo
proximus
like this like that (although similar to blue fear this one was much more exciting)

more abstract trance under megamind

verdi
back to cali
pegasus
baguette

just to name a few

this is trance.. but ifyou look at techno this man is a genius. and eurodance.. thats a whole other ball park

This is a lot of hyperbole without much basis in reality.

That's hardly a suitably sized list to award a "greatest ever" award to the man, especially as a couple of those tracks are horrific.

Most of that is techno.

Picotto is a great producer, but nowhere near the best trance producer and never has been.

I know what he's made. However, I've never heard anything to suggest that he's "revolutionised" or been "fundamental" in the rise of any genre.

his techno is very abstract

his eurodance and dance remixes are more progressive (RAF began in the early 90s)

look at his remix of iguana. where it just builds up into a standard beat and bassline. Im sure alot of trance producers like katana (in silence and aquarius remix) and outback (turtle beach outback remix) for example use this style for a different type of trance.

His regular trance Proxiums was extremely uplifting, komodo topped the charts with its unique sound and so forth.

this is all just from the top of my head but im sure i can dig up more examples if i had his music in front of me. It just occured to me his significance in expanding the sound of trance.

Diversity is this man's middle name.

No, that's a load of rubbish. He didn't revolutionise anything. Those aren't even very good examples of minor innovation.
