Kingston = kind of a boring city, IMO. Don't know if something large could happen there, but then again, if I were you, I'd work with as many people as possible to judge public reaction throughout the cities you are trying to promote, so you can get varied feedback.

I dunno much about the scene there or anything but I like your optimism. This might be a dumb thought but I think that if a festival like WEMF can work out in a hole like Tweed which probably has a square area of 100 meters, then I think with the right kind of promotion, Kingston can definitely do wonders.

Not to forget that Kingston would also attract the audiences in New York since it is not too far away from the border.

I agree with that the fact it is not the best idea to call the big names just because it involves a lot of risk and is likely to be a hit or miss . But the miss can cost you a lot.

However, if you can try something different like a WEMF concept which is not only about 'trance' but different types of EDM - you would automatically attract a bigger and broader audience and at the same time it would give Kingston localites the appropriate exposure. I realise that its easier said than done but you are ambitious which is great.

Good luck though. I'll be there!

guys. i'm disliking all of these pesimistic views.

the whole idea is to promote the culture.

also, i've lived here for 4 years and i know the partiers here. there is crazy potential.

i had the same opinion on kingston as you guys about 2 years ago. but i know lots of queens students and locals that want the scene to develop.

also, being 2 hours away from toronto and mont. and ottawa is a very good thing.

ok i can't type more. using one hand to type. fucked up my right hand and had to get surgery

I don't think having a big, oversold and overexposed DJ like Tiesto is going to promote the culture. He's already been twice to big events here this year and I wouldn't bother travelling out to see him.

You need someone that hardly ever comes to T.O. Start off with smaller goals and DJ's with more of a core following. Not just any ol gino/gina that is like ooooh, TI ES TO!

^^ exactly.

And just because you have lived there for 4 yrs doesn't mean you know the scene. I have lived there my whole life, minus the last yr and a 1/2. I know there are people there that want the scene to develop...some are good friends of mine. But other then a few hundred people at most liking the music, you have country and top 40 fans.

The thing is you need to start small and not bring someone everyone can go and see 3-4 times a yr. Also, in Kingston you aren't going to have a venue big enough for Tiesto, even if you did get him...I am sure he is REALLY pricy, so ticket prices would be a little crazy as I don't know a venue that would allow you to hold the event that holds more then what, 1200-1500 people (Stages). That would mean you would need to have ticket prices at $125 or maybe $100 just to cover Tiesto's bill. You still need to pay the venue....

If you can get Tiesto, awesome, but I think in a place like Kingston it will be hard as they have no prior reputation in the scene for referrals or guarantees of profit
