for what I understand PLASMA is better, that's why price is higher ...

can we tell the difference from a high quality LCD HDTV vs. Plasms HDTV? not really .. i have a LCD 37 HDTV, i get only 10 HD channels (plus NFL season on sundays) through directv and it doesn't look any different than the plasma HDTV i see at bestbuy, circuitcity, fry's, compusa, etc ...

why did i go with LCD??? beucase it's cheaper ..

if i had all the money i would've gone with Plasma ... but now I have 2 LCD HDTV's instead of 1 Plasma HDTV ..

my $0.02

Since when LCDs are cheaper? Are you comparing size to size? A 50" Pansonic (one of if not the best) plasma can be had for under $2300 these days. Show me what a good 46" LCD runs. And none of that Westinginhouse crap. For a Samsung, Sony or Sharp you talking a minimum of $3500. And its still smaller. What's a 50" LCD go for?

Yes, most plasmas are 1366x768, not 1920x1080. There are some 1080p plasmas out there but they are ouch $$$ at this time. But if you know anything about visual acuity, you know the difference between the two a 10' is squat.

Plasmas for the last three years have a 60,000 hour half lifes. Thats 60,000 hours unitl they are half as brite as it was when new.

LCD lamps have about 30,00 hour life. Yes they can be replaced but a 45" LCD has like 30 of them. And they would all need to be replaced when one burns out otherwise the new one will be much brighter and cause a hot spot. Want to tell me what that would cost to replace 30 lamps in 10 years? I'm sure it will be cheaper to buy a new/better set.

A Panasonic, Fujitsu, or Pioneer plasma easily offer the best PQ. Period. LCD still cannot touch the black level and color gamut of a good plasma. While LCD produce vivid colors, they are not accurate. Watching a movie like U-571 on LCD is a nitemare. Everything is a grey haze on LCD.

LCD are superior in a bright room with brightley lit material like sports which is LCDs major advantage. Some are better at dealing with room reflections than plasma. Plasma is a big piece of glass and relfects everything. Some LCDs like Sony's are putting glass ove the panel for some stupid reason.

IMO, which you get should really depend on your viewing habits and price. Watch alot of movies at nite with the lights dimmed? Plasma. Watch alot of daytime TV with the shades open? LCD.

Also, wrong about the reflection. Get a good plasma and there wont be a reflection. Reason for the reflection is because with a plasma you get a darker more real depth image, where as in LCD the image is brighter, making it seem sharper to the human eye that doesnt know about tv's. Its a trick to attract those to purhcase tv's who dont want to spend much on the more expensive plasmas.

There are no 1080p plasma. I was just shopping around and there were some 50"+ plasma's from Panasonic and Pioneer and they were very soft and very reflective. To be fair Comared to LCD screens from Sony,Sharp and Samsung it was no contest, very sharp picture, contrast and generally nice image

What more do i need to say, look at the price comparison. Nothing is priced high that isnt worth it over the lower priced one. Plamsas dont cost more for no reason. Also, look at what they hold at costco, target, etc... LCD. They do have plasmas but those are bad. For a low end tv line, get an LCD, but for a high priced plasma, nothing can compare. And pionner elite is the best out there.

Also, if interested, Marantz has the best projectors out there. 1080p systems

Price is a factor if we are talking about the same technology but we are not. LCD and Plasma are different in many ways and Plasma has proven to have many limitations that are hard to get through, most notably resolution and reflection while LCD has had great improvements over the years . Let's remember also that if you want to connect your screen to a computer, LCD is the only option

im sure that if LCD HDTV's were a lot more expensive that PLASMA HDTV's, then people would get LCD's and say it looks a lot better just to make themselves feel better ....

i am not an expert no this matter, but like GPC says, it depends on the viewing habits ....

If you plan on viewing any HDTV, check out this:

http://www.hometheatermag.com/hookmeup/1106hook/

Its an article that shows how many "HD" sets actually do not properly display 1080i material. For any set that fails, 1080i is being downconverted to 540p (bobed) and then upscaled to the panels native resolution. Its pretty amazing how many sets are still failing in this day and age.

We can all thanks Kris for starting such a controversial thread dedicated to testosterone. Fact of the matter is whether you want plasma or LCD, it's your choice your money. You will always have people arguing both sides in anything subjective. My personal preference would be LCD.

Every guy (single or attached) should some day own a big screen tv, that's fact!

perhaps the roles are reversed in your situation

-edit-
now that i think about it, if a girl bought me a LCD/HDTV, that'd be a huge turn-on lol, but i'd have to at least be able to research and find the one i want lol
