Check out music by Amethystium. It's somewhat like Enigma, but less dance or pop-based, more ambient. He's a Norwegian producer and he combines ethnic instruments and voices, angelic and sensual female vocals, gregorian chant and layers of synth melodies and harmonies to create this really emotive, other-worldy sound. I have yet to buy all of his CDs, but by next month when he releases his fourth one...i'll be sure to buy it. Neurodisc Records has some pretty good ambient/downtempo stuff on their label IMO.
Check out "Arcus" and "Shadow In Light"...really floaty and tranquil.
Also check out Windspiel. They are a group on Residenza Records, from Spain. Their music is similar to Amethystium, but brighter sounding with a Balearic chill sound. You can check out their music on MySpace or download it on Beatport. I'de definitely recommend "On The Wings Of April", "Afterglow" and "Cloud Chaser" (though that is only on Beatport on their album). Absolute bliss i'de say...

Holy fuck how could I forget about Shpongle? Tales of the Inexpressible owns so hard it almost shouldn't be legal. I can only hope there's another album in the works.
Did you miss Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost? <3 Simon Posford, I got to see him spin as Hallucinogen tihs year in some shifty, likely illegal montreal venue. That was awesome.
I find Portishead to be a bit hit or miss, but when they deliver it's great. Sounds a lot like Massive Attack.

Trust me, I've got all their albums from Shpongled to Nothing Lost, but Tales was my favorite of the three.
Raja and Simon need to pump out another album. Hopefully next year or soon thereafter.
