Question, what would you guys think about shifting the NHL seasn by a month? Would starting in November be totally offensive to hockey purists? I'm writing a paper for my sports operations class, so any help would be appreciated

Considering the season starts off very slowly in terms of games during the week it would kinda bother me. Already the NHL has tons of games in the end of the season and in the NBA its even worse. I say its good as it is now...The only problem i have is the number of teams and how the expanded too fast and moved teams from perfect locations to shitty ones....Winnepeg, Dallas..etc

i would be against it only because that's when the NBA season starts and with the interest in the NHL at a low..it'll be a terrible idea

My reasoning behind shifting the season is to avoid conflicts with more popular sports in the US (All Star game is during a time when sports fans are thinking football and the playoffs coincide with the NBA playoffs). I choose to write about the league's crappy Nielsen ratings...
IMO the shitty locations were because the league was desperate for the fees the new teams paid the league.
THANKS

nhl is already suffering in regards to ratings and now attendance in certain markets is just sad, i'm just trying to see if they can salvage ratings during the latter half of the season.

Shifting the season to start in November would be horrible. The playoffs already are ending in mid-June. Imagine if the Stanley Cup was being played for in mid-July. Not only would that seem ridiculous, the ice in most places would be awful.

From a US ratings standpoint you think July would be worse than it is now? This is just an idea and one that apparently everyone hates ...thanks for the comments

I really don't know... where its at now... in the first week of October is good, cause the NBA doesn't start till November...
But I just think the NHL season is way too drawn out... we have to wait till JUNE for a champ... thats stupid... I lose interest by FEBRUARY to be honest.... season should be October - March/April at the latest... 2 games a week MAX....

Hmm I generally space out during the beginning of the season cause it almost doesn't matter and seriously pay attention around Christmas or the All Star break...I do read THN so I guess I don't totally space
