Well, for one thing, no one calls EDM "EDM" except trance crackers.
first time I ever heard the acronym was at a DnB event, i dont really notice that pattern at all, trance crackers are nearly extinct in this state and I hear ppl say "EDM" all the damn time.

What I find most interesting about EDM and especially trance is that it is more solitary. It's effects for me are personal, internal and reflective. As opposed to most other forms of music where you are in a way observing the performer's emotional expression, in EDM you are experiencing the effects yourself. You are reacting to the asthetics of the sound in a way that is personal and solitary.
I really like the way you've put this... I've experinced the same patterns you've described, but never quite seen them described this way.
EDM is subjective... and I've felt the same way about a lot of house, especially guitar and piano infused house.. and yes, trance too.
Though almost all music anyone likes is emotion enforcing, I've never quite seen or heard anyone cry or laugh out loud when listening to hard rock or hip hop... but these genres of music do "express" emotion... but EDM allows me to experience it...
It makes me laugh, cry, smile... all with my eyes closed... looking into my own soul.

Personally I believe all forms of music can enforce emotions (except perhaps anything sung by Elton John) but for me it seems that trance music seems to do it more floridly then types of music. This is why I like it.
Fancy some sex anyone?

Trance music makes me feel like peeing on the back of a bitch who apparently lied to me in almost every conversation we had.
Another point I've just thought of to answer the threads title is because most trance dosnt have vocals so lets you apply your own thoughts to the music which in turn creates emotions. Nice
mmm... trance.
makes me feeeeeeeeeeeel.
makes my heart dance.
beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. it is emotion-enforcing. makes me feel everything.
i fell in love with trance when i was six (when i first heard it).
i'm still in love with it sixteen years later. i wish i could professionally sing for trance tracks...
