all the power to sean and anyone else spinning at this night. in the past i've had my own show on weds and have been too lazy to trek out, now i've got 8 hours of school on weds, so again i'll probably end up being generally too lazy and tired to get out, nothing of course against sean and all those doing this.

as for outdated tracklists, sean has always had a history of playing everything and anything that's ever been pressed. why the hell should anyone buy a record, spin it to death for 3 weeks and never touch it again? that's what mainstream is all about, and its horrible. i stopped listening to vancouver radio 2 years ago because of this mentality. i love hearing classics from time to time, but again, you don't want to bring them back and hammer them every night as well.

you COULD go and buy every goddamn new track out there, but its so true and its been said by me and everyone else in this thread, there is so much absolute CRAP out there that gets pressed, because now with digital labels accepted, there's so much crap signed and released and thrown down our throats. the plus side is, at least we don't have 1 million djs all playing the same 13 tracks, so there's nothing wrong, because one man's crap may very well be another man's golden sunrise. (for example the electro band wagon that occured in 2006. for a few months before it caught on, there was a tonne of quality tracks, because you HAD to make it quality to get it signed because the genre generally unpopular, then once it caught on everywhere, labels scrambled to sign everything and anything to meet dj demand).

lastly, as sean stated, him and everyone else spinning at this night aren't out for fame and glory, money and bitches. its about spinning music they love, whether the club is empty or full (preferably full). its on a wednesday night as well, what do you expect? this is vancouver. you can barely fill a top 40 club on wed night, let alone an edm event on any night.

keep going sean and co. maybe one day you guys will let me open for ya (joking, that'll never happen, i suck too much).

But if this is how you pass all your free time and keep your mojo going, all the power to you. lol

what's with all the hostile negativity?

see, the way this night works is it's not really there to make money and to attract hordes of people. it wouldn't matter if the night was promoted because the people at places such as fnk and clubvibes probably wouldn't even go to something like this.

sean does this because for the love of music. he's never been the type of guy to play the latest mp3s that he has just downloaded off limewire, and frankly i dont think the other two guys are like that either.

I am just voicing what is on my mind. If you think its harsh and you are taking it personally, thats too bad. Keep enjoying those lame 15 person trance parties since apparently they are fun because of how intimate the setting is.

i dont really think meridian was being hostile.

he was however, making comments without getting to know me or my style, but thats ok. He sounds like an elitist, and that makes hm one of us.

i was more upset about lisa kay's comments.

I'm in it for the bitches!!

And I wasn't talking about "the night". I was talking about DJ's/promoters who only care about themselves and will step on anyone's toes to get what they want. And they might always claim it's for the love of the music, or for the people that attend, but that might just be some narrow world views at play, where lying to yourself is just as easy as lying to anyone else.

On Another note:

Everyone come down this wednesday, Sean I bet is going to have another wicked set (good call on that Rank 1 track and Strange World last week dude, AWESOME) Jimmy and I should have a nice treat ready for then, and I hope to play a little more progressive then I have been playing for the last few weeks. Hope to see everyone down there. Cheers

Keep your negativity back east then squila. We are all aware of the situation in Vancouver. The fact of the matter is if "the scene" is so great there then why would you even care. You do nothing to contribute to it in Vancouver so why take away from it with dead end negative comments?. Keep up the good work Sean and dont let any d-grade "i've been listening to dance music for two years and three months so i know everything DJs" take any wind outta your sails.

I've never been one for negativity - seriously I've been nothing but positive and supportive until about now - but when you become disheartened by certain situations and happenings that it affects what you love - shouldn't you say something?

Yeah I'll keep it out east, don't worry. So when I'm back in Van soon enough I'll be that much better at steering clear of it!
________________________________________________________________

The scene isn't so much greater out east per se; there are pluses and minuses to every city. But what matters to me, the people, out east seem to just be themselves, down to earth (not way too cool or whatever you wanna call it) but maybe I haven't ran into the assholes yet.

And really why would my comments even matter/mean anything Sean - if you had no idea what I'm talking about? And I'm not referring to directly you either. But honestly who cares, don't worry about it man. I forgive and forget easy. After all, it's Just a girl talking.

but wouldn't it be great if more people were included, therefore telling more of their friends, making more people feel welcome and aware, times that by 2 of their friends, and so on, and then just maybe, a better trance and progressive scene will result slowly but surely. but this is just crazy talk isnt it!

when a night is limited to exclusivity in small numbers, i.e. who can and does spin there I say there is limited potential for growth -to the night or the scene it falls under.

We do the best we can with all things considered....

For the exception of the snow fall about two weeks ago, there has been a pretty good attendance, I definately have been seeing more and more interest almost on a weekly basis, and hats off to Sean for doing a bang up job for promoting on the radio show as well. But ya, as previously stated, it is very hard to attract people to something like this during a week night (I've also seen a lot of established clubs in Vancouver on the same night which barely get anyone coming out, even on a top 40 night which is supposidly a no brainer for a promoter to get people in mass groups to come down...Does that mean the hip hop scene in Vancouver blows? No, because the main nights, when it matters, Friday and Saturdays, they pretty much have the place packed like a can of tuna).

If you wanted to look at a fair comparison, Saturday would be an ideal night to put it to the test...last month and a half, the club has been busier than a brick layer in Bay Ruit.

i never said the night is fun because of how intimate the setting is
if you had known how the night started, perhaps you would not need to resort to sarcasm

this is not directed at anyone in particular, but i've been seeing a lot of critisism on the boards that has no reasoning. people are simply saying 'this sucks, that blows' without saying why they think that or even trying to be part of the solution and maybe suggest something constructive and doable.

but! we should get out of sean's thread and take this discussion elsewhere. sorry, sean, carry on
