Well, not everyone agrees with prohibition, and barring the mental effects of many drugs, there are a fair amount of entirely physically safe intoxicants (like mushrooms, for instance). Certainly, speed seems safe enough to the AMA to give to huge numbers of our kids, why should we care if a doctor takes an ecstasy pill every now and again? No I know, I understand that side of the debate. And again, I'm not talking about occasional use. However, I still personally feel that even moderate use of hard drugs by health care professionals is totally unacceptable. I DO have high standards for professional ethics, and I know for a fact that most other people in my field would say there's never a time that it's ok for a doctor/nurse/other to take those kind of drugs. It's what I believe, what I've been taught, and what I will strive to uphold.

And to further clarify, I don't think occasional drug use makes a doctor or nurse any less of a doctor or nurse...I just think it goes totally against the idea of what people in those roles are supposed to stand for.


If I indicated anywhere in my posts that I thought it made them bad at their job...that's not what I meant. Forgive my inability to articulate my thoughts.
