No you don't... MDA is usually made through the reductive amination of MDP2P (3,4-methylenedioxy-phenyl-2-propanone) usually. Then it's n-methylated to make MDMA, maybe that's what you're thinking of?

MDP2P is usually made from safrole.

As to my opinion of meth, it's one of the standard dopaminergic/serotonergic neurotoxins used in studies.

Meth just blows people's minds apart, it can turn people psychotic, super angry and have all kinds of halucinations like they can smell their brain rotting or see people that arent there. Also because your body temperature goes up a few degrees for a long time that can cause organ damage to things like your kidneys and liver.
Bit of a modern form of darwinism in action, the monkeys that eat the poisoned berries and mushrooms just don't live very long.

Sorry about the infantile cynicism, I've just found over the years that Australian and US governments attempts to fix drug problems have been shithouse, and their attempts to "educate" youth about drugs has really rung false in my ears. In reality it IS good to see that the focus is shifting away from interdiction and criminalisation of addicts, to education and seeing addicts as victims of a disease. In truth I hope this latest ice epidemic leads to a paradigm shift in drug policy.
