May exactly that idea of DJing die out NOW... before 2007 arrives *prays*

Here is an example of how a DJ should act (although maybe not quite so f*cked out of their minds)

vathisms

Vath has really come back onto form this year.

i think 2006 was a pretty good year for not only trance but techno and house etc
it was better then 2005 imo
in 2006 there have been alot more producers pushin the sound and combining more elements of different generes into trance
makeing it more playable for other djs
example sander van doorn has been makeing tracks that djs from carl cox to danny tenaglia to tiesto have been playin
and for straight up trance its been a good year also not that many cheesey vocals
alot of good stuff commin from overseas thats been gettin more support here in america
and for me 2006 like alot of you said i discovered more music outside of trance i opened my mind a lil bit and began to see other djs of diff generes
i hope 2007 is just as good

But not too much, not too much... I donīt really want to see Armin playing new Eulberg or Bodzin tune in ASOT. Hell.. M.I.K.E. already does that.

Yes, those guys should perhaps only dabble in 1 or 2 records per year like this, as Tiesto proved in 2002 a few techno records splattered through a set make for an interesting time. He's doing it again now, which from my point of view, is superb. Its even creating bad criticism from his n00b fans who are bitching why he doesnt play straight-up trance anymore. You have got to love that. They go to a concert freshly mesmorizing the words to Love Comes Again and Just Be in the car on the way... only to listen to Marc Houle - Bay Of Figs. Get in!

But there is a line to be drawn for sure. They should remember they're still trance DJs' but are just borrowing a bomb from a techno/house genre, rather than changing styles.

A few people are even criticising how this "borrowing" process is bastardising the scene too, i'm sure that all the big name jocks were spitting blood @ Tijs finally picking up Gebrunn Gebrunn these last few months. It really was still a fresh tune in everyone's boxes right?

Sorry went off on a tangent there... i guess the bottom line to my point is, at least Tiesto didn't decide this year to just stick to "discover" trance and be done with it. Thank God there is still some kind of thought process going on somewhere in that head of his.

Yeah, that could be the good side of it. Tiesto with all his influence chooses some quality tunes from other genres and gives them to a huge MTV-oriented crowd.

But then comes Tyas and fucking ruins a song like Domino (although not 'officialy'). Thatīs what should definitely not happen to neotrance.

hell yeah if they start touching that stuff, its time to stop the revolution!

Thing is, people are using that above excuse as a reason why hating Tiesto is still OK, cos he is now bastardising those tunes, to the mass market... well newsflash, that mass market seriously only reacts to his own hits. At his shows you can see it, apart from the compulsory first tune, most people are just standing around milling about until they hear Traffic.

Their whole night revolves around hearing that Dance4Life track for some bizare reason. Meanwhile, the handful of people there with a clue, are going mental on Landsky - 1000 Miles and Vitalic La Rock.

I don't think Tiesto presenting a wider picture of EDM will have any influence on his "minions" only those that also DJ, the ones that do nothing but buy tunes he plays or spin in the same order he does.

re: Tyas... if he'd made 2-3 good productions and stuck with them, it would've been very easy to say this guys done well. But to make (and remake) everything under the sun, just proves its not a hobby for that guy anymore. Thats sad.

The drive comes when you pitch up these tracks to a trance-serviceable 138 - 140.. although maybe Cobalt will not agree there, I think that they then sound very 1995-96 techno/trance hybrid genre style rather than glitchy

yeah i'd want to pitch them up also. but i think the strength of the kick is important too.. not saying they should all have a massive discover-style kick & offbeat bassline slapped on top (although i'm sure a certain mr tyas could fix that up either way ), just something more prominent.. especially when mixing it with progressive trance & whatnot

just needs that *thump* for me, even at slower bpms

yep that was a superb moment - I was there with a certain neon orange friend of mine somewhere near the front y'see when i first checked that track out on beatport - it was like, hmmm ok, its a car engine revving, and its going on for ages.

In a club, even when its TIESTO... it was earth-shatteringly good - bass-heavy and thundering around Gods.

he mixed it with Vitalic - La Rock... i could've died right there
