Up the price and gob in the chocolate mix or better still put a nice dose of laxatives in there.

Answer to Obesity: SELF-CONTROL.

/thread

Michael - i'm not trying to make you look stupid or argue with you here, i'm just trying to lay the facts out for you so that you might learn that my ridiculous beliefs and theories are pretty common.

you keep re-posting your statement about the answer to obesity being self control, but have you thought that maybe people in the lower class don't really have a choice when it comes to self control? people living on welfare don't get to "control" what they eat... they're forced to eat cheap food regardless of how unhealthy it is. not everyone has the option of eating a healthy meal and then going out for a 20 minute jog.

there are many causes for obesity, from genetic to environmental, and you can't just rule out economic status as an environmental factor.

Haha...yes, if only I didn't need to keep my job.

This brings up genetics though. My coworkers and I have free reign of anything in the store...fudge, icecream, candy, chocolate...yet, we are all thin. It's kind of funny when fat people come in and make comments about it, "Oh, look at all of you girls, you're all so thin!". Yea, beause WE DON'T STUFF OUR FACES - even though we can.

Do you think some are just genetically disposed to have higher appetites than others? And, wouldn't it make sense (from a nature standpoint) to give those with higher metabolisms larger appetites and vice versa?

I wouldn't worry, he's done an absolutely magnificent job of it himself.

That's like me, I can eat as much as I like, but I stay around 12 stone no matter what...I once put on half a stone and lost it in one week...

Basically if I worked in that store I wouldn't care, I'd eat everything and it wouldn't make a difference to my weight...any vacancies?

It's an interesting though, however I reckon it's also a lot to do with upbringing.

Being allowed to eat crap 24/7 as a kid = carry on as adult.

Having some restriction on your diets and being taught at least basic healthy eat and you're less likely to indulge.

We are 'made' as such to pack on fats as a survival mechanism to get us through 'lean times' where theres little food around, however when you change the 'lean times' to being basically going hungry for an few hours instead of a few days. It gets skewed in the lipids direction

That and we're no longer as physically active as we used to be, hacking open a can of beans or thawing something out in the sink isnt exactly the same as digging out a days worth of vegetables or beating some furry animal to death

nature just doesnt give. Your bringing science into this now. Basically a metabolism increases when the body fat percentage is low. So skinnier people have a higher metabolism (usually) and thats why they stay skinny. People who weigh more have a slower metabolism and use up calories slower than one who is leaner. It has to do with muscle requiring more energy then fat and fat stores being broken down for energy. When you are fat your body doesnt need to work as hard to produce energy for your body (thus a slower metabolism) Think about it 1 g of fat has 9 calories while 1 g of carbs has 4 and also 1 g of protein has 4.

Also thats why in winter hibernation is possible due to fat stores and dramatic slowing down of metabolism.

Didnt do the research on this but it makes sense. Anyone can correct me if im wrong.

I done my leg in when I was 18 up to the age of 21 which pretty much made me unable to excercise properly that + easy food made me a right porky bastard, then I lost it all and went to about 11 and a half stone, now I stuggle to put weight on only time I can is if I drink loads of beer.

However I was thinking perhaps fat people should be locked up we could put all these fatties on the Bobby Sands diet!

Back to front
High metabolism, converts sugars and proteins to lipids more effectively
Low metabolism, doesnt convert them as well and person remains slimmer regardless of what they seem to eat.
