These guys did it for me too. Well, Sasha first really, when I heard his Global Underground 009: San Francisco. I knew just about instantly that I wanted to do that. But I was hooked, bought turntables as soon afterwards as I could afford them and started spending way more money than I could really afford on vinyl. I discovered Digweed about a week later, as I was looking for other stuff by Sasha and stumbled upon the Northern Exposure series. Digweed is better than Sasha (or so my taste leads me to think), so I got sucked even deeper in.
And it was a snowball effect from there. I started out being a total nut for progressive house/trance, decided that just plain Trance with a capital T (the kind of stuff that Tiesto and Ferry and Armin play for the most part) just isn't for me, as in I have a hard time enduring it. As time went on I dove into deep, dark progressive, tech house, and the like. Now I'm loving techno a lot (though minimal is still something I don't particularly enjoy a lot of the time), and tech house, but I'll still go nuts over GOOD progressive trance (ya know, music that's maybe technically "trance" but resembles house, like what Sasha and John play when they're not playing techno).
Other early influences were, notably: Hybrid. Sander Kleinenberg. Nick Warren. The Flash Brothers. Orbital. A Dislike of All Hard Trance, cheesy vocal Trance, hardstyle, gabber, and minimal techno.
