(-10)^10 is 10000000000 but
-(10^10) is -10000000000

In your case, since you placed a negative sign outside the bracket, the term 10^10 will get evaluated first and then a negative sign will be applied to the answer.

Pfft. In the absence of parentheses negative signs get evaluated like coefficients. My original "-10 ^ 10" line contained no parentheses at all; you added one into the quote.

Although the way the other poster wrote "- 10^10" is admittedly very ambiguous.

Although, in my opinion, the multiplication gets evaluated first. We had this BODMAS rule in school. In the absence of brackets, the order gets evaluated first, then division and multiplication and so on. I was just checking it on Wiki. It turns out,
