i get alot of it and there are a few really great ones, im not saying 100% of trance these days is bad.

last year's better tracks imo were
above and beyond - good for me (club mix)
luminary - amsterdam
hybrid - just for today
mannix vs kaymak - world gone mad (dan stone remix)
andy hunter - go

i dont listen to much psy or goa trance anymore so that could be different altogether but compare that list to the great tunes u can name for 99 or watever and u see why trance has declined so much. its not "dead" but fuck its dying lol

Meh, it's all subjective though. I didn't listen to that much, but my list would be much longer than that.

Look at rock: when rock was first emerging, everything was good (Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, etc.). Now, we have Bowling for Soup. Doesn't mean there aren't good rock bands out there too. Just means the market is more saturated.

+1 Very insightful.

yea it is, its not a fact that trance is all shit now but it is a fact that its lost wat made it great in the first place and that its more pop than trance now. there doesnt seem to be anything new or innovative happening now which is why alot of people keep saying "its dead" (i think lol)

I think trance is expanding outwards though, pushing the envelope of what it means to be trance. For instance, Ferry's latest album. Is it trance, or electro? Gabriel & Dresden's: trance, house, or pop? I think the guitar elements that G&D have become known for were pretty revolutionary at the time, right? And the sparkly little sounds that Leama and Moor use (like in Moor's Whiteroom for instance) were newish. Again, I'm not an expert, but it does seem that trance is changing, so it can't all just be rehashing the past.

Just the fact that Tiesto can drop Suburban Train, Ame - Rej, and Andain - Beautiful Things in the same set... isn't that somewhat revolutionary? Music seems more interconnected now than it was then, with boundaries between genres more fluid. Then again, I'm sure the boundaries become more distinct in hindsight.

You're totally centered around the melodic asot scene, no wonder your trance is dying.

you thought that because of that post? fuck your way off. and i wouldnt call hybrid, andy hunter or the world gone mad track part of the asot scene. im just sick of psy and goa which is why i dont listen to it anymore, those genre's just seem exhausted imo.

good point. i actually dont think trance is "dead" but the reasoning i just said was why other people think its dead. i think its a huge shadow of its former self but far from dead.

Who said anything about psy and goa? And anyway, if you don't listen to it how can you have such a loud opinion about it?

You pick up this working girl who's hooked on smack, who hussles and scores. "That's all I do" she says, she says "Ten bucks for head, fifteen for half-and-half". She says "Three hits a day at 35 per", you say "That's seven tricks a day at least", but she says "Sometimes I get lucky. Once this guy gives me a bill-and-half just to eat me, only time I ever came".
You figure you can save her. You sell your color tv, that keeps her off the streets a whole day. You hawk your typewriter for one jolt. Then your shotgun, your watch. A week later you say "Listen I'm a little short", but she says "No scratch, no snatch". You say "Look it is better to give", but she says "Beat off creep".
One night they spot you on the street in your skibbies trying to sell your shoes. You tell them who you are, but they nail you. Then she happens by and she says "Christ you look fucked", she says "Hang tough!". But you don't say anything, you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me".
