after living in providence for 6 years, i've come to utterly despise the new england accent. what's even worse, i can now distinguish between massachusetts and rhode island new engladese...
non new englanders who want a taste of southie bostonese, should check out "good will hunting" and "the departed."

not quite, but i do pepper my speech with "fuggedits" from time to time since i've grown up in bay ridge/bensonhurst, i can do "goumbah" very authentically (much to the amusement of my non-nyc friends and colleagues)
my pops has the really old school new york accent (boids for birds) which is a relic of a bygone era.
it's sad and unfair, but regional accents are widely considered exemplars of ignorance, both in the states and abroad.
