Lira please stop referring to FYROM as Macedonia...they have nothing in common, and its quite offensive to be labelled the same as a race that has history of cheating, stealing and lying...

That's me in the corner, That's me in the spotlight, I'm Losing my religion, Trying to keep up with you ,And I don't know if I can do it, Oh no, I've said too much,I haven't said enough, I thought that I heard you laughing, I thought that I heard you sing, I think I thought I saw you try.

But that was just a dream, That was just a dream, But that was just a dream, Try, cry, why try? That was just a dream ,Just a dream, just a dream, Dream

Racial slurs aside,

quote:

The ancestry of present-day Macedonians is mixed. Their genetic roots can be traced back to Paleolithic and Neolithic settlers of the Balkans. However, their linguistic and cultural origins stem from the 6th century when various Slavic tribes migrated to, and settled in, the region of Macedonia. The Slavs actively assimilated other tribal peoples, and most ethnographers such as Vasil Kanchov,[22] Gustav Weigand,[23] and the anthropologist Carleton S. Coon posit that they absorbed part of the indigenous populations of the area, including Greeks, Thracians and Illyrians.

Today, Macedonians are people with a unique identity derived from an influence of different cultures. The large majority identify themselves as Orthodox Christians, who speak a Slavic language, and share similarities in culture with their Balkan neighbours. However, the concept of a distinct "Macedonian" ethnicity is seen as a relatively new arrival to the milieu of peoples that is the Balkans.

Previously, any reference to "Macedonians" in medieval and early modern times tended to be used as a regional description rather than a distinct ethnic designation. Such examples include the Greek Macedonian dynasty which at one stage ruled the Byzantine Empire. The first ethnographic data pertaining to the Macedonian region as a whole emerged during Ottoman rule.

Arrived 1500 years ago, ethnicity was first used as a descriptor in the region 600 years ago. As far as anyone other than anti-Bulgar Greeks are concerned, they are Macedonian.

But, but, but... isn't that what the "M" in "FYROM" stands for?
