I don't see how it can work any other way.

if a triangle has a total of 180 degrees, and all sides are equal, why WOULD it be a right triangle? all the angles are 60degrees.

His theory says that the hypotenuse has to be the longest side. In this case all sides are the same length. That's noted by the tic marks on each side. If the two adjacent sides had one tic mark and the hypotenuse had two tic marks, you could infer that it was a right angle.
