Hey Nef,

Off to Rome eh? Probably my favourite European city. Club scene is pretty crap for trance though. Have played once or twice there but to be honest the Italians either like it too cheesy even for a mainstream club or hard as f*cking nails, and there is really no middle ground.
The women are stunning though, hence the reason I married one. And when they speak in that broken English... woooooahhh!

Sorry I better calm down, but seriously man, enjoy yourself and make sure you eat tons of icecream because it truly rocks like none other in the whole world. And go and eat at restaurants where Italians eat, better still like a beautiful dark lady take you out and let her order the food.

I'm going to shut up now but I truly envy you. Enjoy

Nem

Listen m8 - you just keep me set through the fall on the production side of things, and when you get back, we'll see about sorting out how we can get you down to Chicago to work a night.

I'd love to get a chance to play a set with you.

haha the pleasure would be mine, rob

edit - nice fucking glacier gig by the way

from nef to nem - yeah my italian friends have told me about the club situation. i've talked to a few about a more underground scene and it seems that it exists but it's quite limited.

re: italian women. agreed! but I am sicilian and my girlfriend is puerto rican, so i get my fix of accents and broken english

Actually,

he queues it up and runs loops off of the cdj's and his 2 laptops to mix.

if you have cdj800's its very easy to do.

my personal preference:

while one song is playing, slide th cd into the cdj800, load it.. queue it, match bpm, hear the first leg of the track (i.e. til breakdown)

remember the length and start to loop it by 8's or 4's depending on your preference..then use your knowledge of the length of time to determine when you wnat to drop it into the end of the other set. if a melody comes in quick in your next track..i like to keep it looped and mix it in while its looping so people hear more of the beat and im able to mix out of the other song and melody without clashing it if its not the same key.. release the loop and keep mixing out and voila! rinse and repeat

hope that helps!

It's true. A lot of it comes from connections. I actually got sick of it all, and stopped playing on the turntables, until I started meeting a hell of a lot of ppl with a hell of a lot of connections as well. I'm not really sure why I never really met these ppl before in the first place, :S.... I mean I'm not doign anything different, probably just a matter of luck. If your passionate and extraverted about the passion, and that passion comes accross to people, word simply spreads (this guy knows what he's talking about).

I found that I often ended up getting respected just be explaining my knowledge of the scene, and what makes a good DJ, and explaining why I believe that a lot of the DJs present already are really dodgy (One of the residents here I catch playing a pre-recorded CD mix at times).

Anyways, just gotta get some reliable CDJs that suit my style for now, and get my name out. I think I'll do great. Got a gig promising 100-150 ppl already, though i wish it would be in a club .

the entire point in dropping the tracks in time is so it sounds and feels right, so just listen with your ears to the music, and the right timing comes quite naturally
