This has needed to happen for years now - but unfortunately, our country has been too stubborn too ask for help.

We're still on many fronts too stubborn to listen to our own advice, much less that of other countries. Patraeus is a puppet.

I'd be glad if I didn't know better: that France sat back, said to themselves "Hey, those guys sure are making a lot of money in international security and industrial contracts - we want a piece of that!" and then suddenly wanted to help with the "peace effort".

And TOTAL wants in with Chevron on oil deals.

It's really just too obvious by now that corporations are running governments.

I agree Clovis. I just have never liked the systemic ignoring of human rights violations. I know we do it with homeless people and stuff, but homeless shelters and private projects help a lot.

Those areas just treat women and children very harshly, and they violate the UN constitution and declaration of human rights that most of the world has ratified and agreed that these things are wrong.

I wasnt trying to turn this into anothe Iraq war thread, its just I head about shocking stuff like this all the time, and its so widespread that it has the Africa feeling to it sometimes where everyone does nothing.

India is an awesome example though. As soon as they educated women in certain prvoinces, infant mortality dropped, avg lifespan increased, people were making more money etc.

There need to be systemic changes and I havent seen the efforts towards that as I have seen in other countries.

To me, Human Rights and the promotion of equal rights for women & men should be our upmost concern in foreign policy. It's what democracy is built on, how do you convince people women should vote when the prevailing view is that they should be kept in the dark? We need to push hard in that direction to effect change, and to help folks in those countries who are struggling for it and give them all the help they can get. The moderates in Pakistan have an enormous struggle right now, against not only Musharraf, but also the religious fanatics that have been gaining steam from his horrible economic policies. His presidency hangs from a thread, and if there is some kind of event in which he loses power, the vacuum will be filled by either, the extremists, or the moderates, but the former is gaining much popularity, especially among the uneducated. (for obvious reasons)

Walleyed fuck whatever that means in English. Especially coming from a ginger hick **** I'll take that as a complement.

Anyway hows your wedding plans going? I heard your fathers really proud about taking his daughter up the aisle... Even though I heard she went off with a black man the other week.

ive come to the conclusion that as much of a pain in the ass women are, they pretty much hold society together. And, as they take the brunt of everyones mistakes, they definitely should get a voice. Its really crazy when you go through nobel winners and success programs throughout developing countries its always education, voting, and gender equality that drive change. Micro lending in India was also totally rad and brought the poorer people up a lot.

I initially wanted to do international humans rights work with the internation justice mission.

life got me though, and I hated school so now im an application developer. The passion still burns though!
