Ohh.. c'mon guys! We can't compare this year edition with "Chapter One" or "UR'04: LIVE from Ibiza". Now it's 4 years between "Chapter One" and "Chapter Three". 4 years music evolution! Music is changed. This compilation is beautiful and include some top tracks of summer 2007. Mixing is also great, much much, a lot better than on ISOS'6 (which personally for me is the best mix-album this year). Too many people thinking about Armin's career and not about his music. I know he's on commercial road. It's not his fault then he's very popular. He's been working for a long time to achieve what he wanted to achieve. Guys stop thinking about Armin Van Buuren, it's about Universal Religion, about sound of Ibiza 2007.

You don't think it's a conscious effort on his behalf to play, sign, and make what's considered popular? I'm perfectly fine with comparing the three compilations as they are all three by the same man with presumably the same goal in mind. The mixing got far worse on this one; some of the transitions are really, really obvious. ISOS 6 mixing actually is better than this. It is also saturated with vocal trance which can get overbearing.


This isn't a terrible comp (like the ASOT ones as of late), and the mixing isn't awful, it's just sub-par for Armin, and will only do the job and nothing more.

ISOS'6 and better transitions? sorry m8 but not this time. Armin have better mixing skills than Tiesto and thats truth which we know already since long time.

btw. which transitions for U are obvious? I just wanna know. Thanks for great discussion

Generally speaking Armin's mixing skills are far better than Tiësto's, yes. In this case however Armin's mixing is really sub-par. I'd also dare to say that disc 2 of ISOS6 is better mixed than this UR compilation.

It's just that Armin has dropped so much in terms of quality; his liveset mixing also isn't what it used to be anymore. When he wasn't so popular, he put more effort in everything. The ASOT2007 CD's just show how badly and quick it was thrown together: for a computermixed CD it was once again sub-par.

Also: What good are advanced mixing skills when you fail miserably at trackselection ?

Roadkill to Morphology is one of them. I totally couldn't tell when the basslines changed. I mean, not even a little bit. So smooth. Really.

Morphology to Daydream isn't much better.

I'm not expecting perfect mixing on cdjs, but I know Armin can do better. The mixing on this is rather dire compared to the other UR's, and just because you love Armin so much doesn't mean he hasn't gotten more lackadaisical. ISOS 6 is mixed better, there weren't any transitions I can recall being nearly as obvious as that one.

I'm very disappointed w/ this mix. UR2 is one of my favorite mixes and I'm hard to please. So I had high expectations for this mix but it just wasn't there.

Maybe. I only listened to it once and it was sorta in the background since it's Tiesto. But as far as one-listeners in the background goes, ISOS 6 was better mixed.

1. "Til' the Sky Falls Down" into "Invincible"
Horrible, IMO not subtle at all. He abruptly started "Invincible" and immediately killed the bass for "Til' the Sky Falls Down" leaving the melody sounding distorted. It doesn't sound good at all.

2. "Roadkill" into "Morphology"
Just plain horrible. No subtlety at all, it sounds as if he just slammed the crossfader from one deck to the other. Should have waited for the outro and then slowly introduced the "Morphology" bassline instead of switching basslines so abruptly. Do you really think this is "great mixing"?


3. "Morphology" into "Daydream"
Yet another crossfade slam. Two careless, lazy, and plain shitty transitions in a row.

4. "Daydream" into "Barent Blue"
Another abrupt transition, not as shitty and cringeworthy as the previous two but only because of the fact that at the moment of transition there were no beats or bassline on the exiting track. As simple as pressing "PLAY" at the right time.

5. "Barent Blue" into "How Long?"
Again, can mixing be more obvious? I could achieve this exact same result with two CD players and pressing stop on one and play on the other one at the same time.

6. "How Long?" into "Summer Blush"
Are you fucking kidding me? This is really starting to get annoying. Once again, abrupt as fuck.

7. "Summer Blush" into "Life Cycle"
Make this 6 in a row and counting. You can actually hear when he fucks up and kills the "Summer Blush" low freq. too early leaving practically no beats driving the mix. You can hear "Summer Blush" sounding all distorted and high in the background until he moves the crossfader to the other track.

8. "Life Cycle" into "Beauty Hides in the Deep"
Not good at all, but definitely an improvement on the previous 6 transitions. Although it still sounds abrupt, it's not as abrupt as the previous ones.

The rest, while not exactly "breath-taking" were at least acceptable. The only transition that is really well done is the one from "Another Day in the Terrace" into "Til' the Sky Falls Down" which happens to be the first transition in the CD. After that, it all turns into a mixing shitfest.


So, out of the 13 total transitions on this CD, 8 were bad and at least 4 were just plain lazy and careless, and horrible overall. I gotta ask you what kind of drug would make someone so delusional to think mixing in this CD is "great"?
