They did, it's easy to pull it up in some sound programs and compare the two sound ranges.

if you got good speekers and a good ear on you you can hear, mp3 is flat, its got no depth, wav has a little more feel to it, but good old vinyl, on a good old valve amp, then you got sound....but yeh you can. also depends on the production of the music your playing.

What does it matter, there's only one WAV and it's the control in the experiment.

Stop trying to be smart and take part if you think you can do it.

when the majority of your crowd doesn't know too much about what you're playing much less possibly being drunk and not paying attention, playing out a lower bitrate isn't that bad. I could see being a big DJ and playing to a lot of people, then I'd try to have the best files I can get.

also, I find it strange that sometimes I have a file that might be 192 or even 128, but sounds so good, its like a 320!

I may devise something to put people's claims about this to the test.

do it please. i'd be interested in seeing if i can.

Read the rest of the thread. I created several tests and linked to them.

yea i know i saw that after. i'm waiting to do it when my bf gets home because he's got incredible ears and has a lot of experience with sound system installation with cars and setting all the specs, etc.. so it sounds "perfect".

car stereos are not exactly hi-fi.

as everybody seems to say, it depends on the speakers/headphones. can't tell on my speakers, can occasionally tell on my headphones (again, as mentioned, usually when back-to-back). car, no. a lot of the stuff i get to play with @ work, yes. it's separation b/w instruments & frequencies for me, and mostly in the mid-high ranges w/ percussion.

more sounds = more data. watch a blu ray on a player with video & audio bitrate display. watch them spike during high-action or quick-pan sequences. it's much easier to hear the difference in compression between recordings of a symphony or a mix than it is in, say, of a pop song with a synthesizer. that's not to say it can't be done, but that, at least from my experience, it's far easier.
