heh heh, good point. Publicity is good when the person is a carwreck anyways, or for when you like to see how he/she responds to a public media flogging - the underdog appeal if you will.
But with these two, it's gonna hurt their credibility, especially if their dj skills were average at best to begin with (cough, dj Dan, cough). There are just too many decent djs waiting in the wings that will get those PR votes (and yes, djmag is about PR).

| quote: | There are a lot of issues around the rankings. DJ Mag is the authority, thedjlist.com. What do you think of the industry ranking the actual artists so much?
Let me be perfectly clear about this. I think it's a good thing because it gives everybody a voice. It doesn't matter if you are in a little town in the middle of Nebraska or if you're an experienced clubber in London or New York City. Your opinions matter. Back in the day DJs would just go and do a crappy job in some city where they just didn't want to be at, or they just weren't feeling it and they would be, "Whatever. I wish this night would end." Now you have to be on top of your game. Every time you go somewhere, you can't put on a lame show. It doesn't matter if you're in London, New York, at a festival. You have to bring you're A-game. So in that sense the polls have kind of given everybody a voice and made the DJs take it seriously. But I think what has happened lately is the spirit of the polls is being manipulated with a lot of people cheating and I think that's where it's going wrong. Sure, everybody has their parents vote, or tells their buddies to vote, or everybody votes from their Hotmail account and then from their normal email account, everybody does that. That's no big deal. But when you hire a company to pad the votes for you and you vote thousands of times, then what you're doing is screwing the fans. That's not legit and I don't know how some of these people can look at themselves in the mirror. I don't know how some of these people are up on stage and not feel that they are there for the wrong reasons. They are there because they cheated. For me it's about integrity and about making the fans happy, and making a difference in people's lives. I was put on this planet to make people happy through my music. I can't do anything else. To me it's a good thing but shame on the people who have cheated, and I really hope that the people who are doing these polls really put forth the extra effort to make sure that they are safeguarding against these things. Like I said, shame on the DJs that cheat and how can you stand on stage and look out at the audience and feel confident. |
