I agree with the person who said you can't condemn an entire continent just cause of a few bad apples, but you also have to understand that the DJ's touring in these countries spend all of their time there at these huge events -- that is their whole schedule. So the likelyhood of something like this happening around them skyrockets if you consider that. They also have managers and other people advising them, probably freaking out telling them not to go (and if they have a conscience, canceling gigs with unscrupulous promoters that allow shit like this to go down).

You guys have to understand that Venezuela is going through VERY rough times right now! Especially with this crazy asshole in power, Chavez! He is the source of all this shit! My family lived in Caracas in the 70s-80s and it was beautiful! You could actually walk down the street without getting mugged and what not. I totally agree with ANYONE who wouldn't want to go to Venezuela, it IS a very VERY dangerous country AT THIS POINT IN TIME! Let's hope things change in the future as it still is a beautiful country, with beautiful people and a fruitful history! On the other hand, countries like Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia are getting better and better. Colombia being one of the main exporters of Techno in Latin America has witnessed a progressive and positive change in every macroeconomic aspect, from its economy (best emerging market besides Brasil) to its current security, OF COURSE it is not perfect but it has changed drastically from what it used to be 10 years ago! Panama has the most developed EDM scene in Central America, it is 95% safe and you will just have the time of your life there! Same goes to Costa Rica. Well, the rest you know the classics and pioneers of it all, Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Chile. Chile is amazing I was there a few months back and felt as if I was in USA, the country can't get anymore safer! Some countries are changing to bad terms, Venezuela being one of them as well as Bolivia, this has been a known fact since fucking Chavez came to power. Guys, take care of yourselves and enjoy other places for now...Go back to Caracas after this whole shit finishes and if it doesn't too bad, I wouldn't go myself right now, my friends always go to Caracas on business trips and they stay at the hotel all night, this is no way of life! Please! Venezuela is shit right now! Sad but true!

good luck wishing venezuela back to the pre-chavez days. he just "convinced" the legislature to invoke several provisions to keep him in power for the foreseeable future. he's about to institute a socialist facade on a fascist state. Furthermore, he's destroying the infrastructure that could make venezuela one of the more prosperous of south american states. the slow confiscation of private enterprise in venezuela will scare american and european investment (especially in the oil sector) so that venezuela will be unable to keep pace with brazil and chile. In short, he's the worst thing that could happen to the people of venezuela.

it's a real shame what is going on in that part of the world. While countries like chile and brazil are slowly pulling out of desparate poverty, others, live bolivia and venezuela seems to fall deeper in dispair. The most unfortunate of all is that this country, the US, could exert more positive influence on those countries and could invest so much more in south america. we shouldn't be fighting battle in the middle east and asia. The greatest example is Bush's notional agreement with the brazilian president about ethonal. we are overlooking a great brotherhood with brazil and we are opening the opportunity for other "less US friendly" countries to built bonds with brazil (which already has a fractured relationship with the US). I only hope the future of SA can change for the better. The people deserve so much more.

Some more insight into the shooting:

Four people were shot dead at a Carl Cox concert on Saturday in Venezuela after a gunman starting shooting in the crowd.

There are reports on the web that nine people were also injured, and grisly footage of the aftermath was posted on YouTube by the VJ who was playing at the gig at La Rinconada Terrace in Caracas, Venezuela.

On a VJ Forum, VJ Rei from Venezuela described the attack and said he saw three dead bodies on the dancefloor:

“Last night, 15 meters from me when Carl Cox started his show and 10 minutes into it someone started to shoot everyone. It sounded like firecrackers, it was so fast I didn’t think it was a gun.

“Everybody started to run like crazy.

“I was in the main booth, doing my visuals and filming the show. I just grabbed the camera and started to film everything that was going on.�

The film has now been removed from YouTube.

Carl Cox was headlining the event called Red Noise, and on Monday this statement was posted on his website Carlcox.com

“I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of this Saturday [3rd November].

“My condolences go out to victims that were caught up in this horrific act that took place at this gig.

“I am informed that it was gang related and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7000 people having fun!

“I will try my best to continue on the tour across South America however deeply shocked and shaken I am.�

Venezuela and Colombia are countries that are going through real difficult times right now but, Have you ever seen a map of Southamerica? Have you ever seen how far is Venezuela from Chile Argentina or Uruguay for example?

My point is that there are a lot of beautiful (and safe) countries in Southamerica that you can visit and have an awesome time so you don't have to judge a whole continent for shit that happened in Venezuela or Colombia. Venezuela is going to real difficult times right now and with that crazy ass president they have, Chavez, so it is kinda expected that shit like this happened there. On the other hand, in places like Chile, Argentina, or Peru to give you examples, you would never see shit like you describe gunfire in the streets, or even guns and violence like you see here in states in high-schools or streets.

You also mentioned you been to Panama and the fact that is not even part of SA and Colombia been right next to Central America makes me feel you need to go farther South to find real good times.

I am going there next Summer so lemme know if you need a place to crash...I will show the real deal!

Yeah I can't say I've been to Chile or Argentina but I hear great things... Even regardless of hearing bad things, I would still go to a place at least once, so Brazil is still on my list of places to go to as well, regardless of everything I hear from people that have fled it...

haha, please go to Venezuela I wish you only the best! Your implication that this particular situation could very well happen anywhere in the world is true, however, Venezuela is still MUCH more dangerous than any state in the United States, and if you don't believe me, please, do yourself a favor and visit Venezuela right now! Like I said, I wish you only the best! I am from Panama and I've been to Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Brasil and even shitty Bolivia, and yes Venezuela is dangerous so the odds of this particular situation happening in Venezuela rather than New York are MUCH MUCH MUCH higher.
