the point of food is survival, but enjoyment can cast a long arrow. even if you eat shit food, having a good time will help digestion and weight issues.

i think the US has a sense of entitlement - i want it NOW, and FAST!!

for the time i didnt live here, i lost a bunch of weight due to various reasons, but the US culture cultivates consuming.

its not just a change in food, but the way we live. driving everywhere, when mass transport is probable and necessary is a big change. fresh veg and meat is always on sale in every main grocery - even if it isnt what you were looking for.

eating a pork roast fresh is better than eating one chicken finger, but it depends on what youve eaten, whom you are with and whether you treasure the meal. you can eat shit as long as it is measured and with friends - rather than deep frying frozen shit by yourself.

the US weight issue is not a simple one to crack. it involves paying attention to everything you eat, but that never means it should be difficult. its just more effort than many will ever put in. we have never, in a long time, had to monitor what we eat, due to money, travel, bills. and that is the main issue.

people worldwide survive on dollars a day, but in the US you need to spend 20+ to eat well sometimes, but that food is more valuable than the money saved eating stuff that will give you diarrhea|

200 gram Salmon cost 3 euro here in holland.

For 3 euro (which is now 4.5 dollar?) i can get 2 tuna pizza 350 gram each and a 1 kilo bag fries.

The government of holland is thinking of applying a fat tax on unhealhty food to discourge people.

But thats not the problem, if i want to eat healthy, i need to pay 6-7 euros for an healthy evening meal every day.

I live on a low income and have rarely ever been depressed. Most of the food/meals I have is very simple and I also batch cook simple healthy meals which saves time and money.

My diet overall is OK. I get a balance of protein, fibre and carbs even if I'm unable to purchase that much fruit and veg (I take multivitamins to compensate when I need to). For snacks, I buy a mix of healthy stuff like seeds and crackers and ocassionally treats such as chocolate. Sometimes I'll buy more junk than usual but at the end of the day, I don't gain any weight.

Plus, I can afford to go to the gym/go swimming so that also balances it out imo.

p.s. Subways are not that much dearer than McDonalds. I virtually live on them during lunch breaks and they're so value for money!
