Detroit house (combination of Detroit techno futurism and Chicago house soulfulness) started to appear around 1987, mainly on Master Reese's label KMS. He (and his projects - Inner City, Reese & Santonio and E-Dancer) was also the most prominent pusher of that sound in the 80's (and 90's).
I'm not contradicting that fusions of techno and house happened long before "Tech-House". I'm just saying that the term "Tech-House" was coined by Mr. C. Furthermore, IMO it ended describing a specific sound (despite the fact that Mr. C himself wanted to be more vague, and maybe it was but up to a certain extend)which was different from anything done before. It surely had Chicago house and Detroit techno elements, as i have stated before, that was what "Tech-House" was all about, but then again it sounds different then this proto-tech-house stuff like "Inner-City". In the end of the day "Inner-City" was the techno of the day, which was much slower than later-day techno and being in its infancy, it was still closer to house IMO.

Yeah, I know that and agree with pretty much everything you said, but I somehow don't see why he (Mr. C) had to coin the term (and everything that goes with that) in the mid-90's, when the same thing (well not exactly the same, but what genre stays unchanged through the years) already existed

well, that specific track certainly might be called tech house
but it's misleading to write "Tech-House: Underground Resistance.", since most UR tracks are not very housey

Actually there are six tracks in that video.
It's a really interesting and unique fusion of detroit and chicago. There wasn't much made, true, but nobody has really been able to reproduce that sound on a larger scale. I think that mostly it was detroit artists trying to make house, but Ron Trent (from chicago) also attempted some techno tracks in the early 90's that came off sounding slightly like house.

I'm currently listening to legendary album from The Timewriter called 'Jigsaw Pieces' (2007 reissue)
Does anybody have any good recommendations for this style of music?

wow, Petran just owned the entire response I just typed out, and deleted.
anyways, Ill say: Manoo fucking rocks.
My def. of deep and tech really lay for me on the synth and pads.
IMO it's all just about the influence, not defining every track into niche fucking bits and arguing.
i just tried to find two examples.. i would classify this motorcitysoultrack as tech house.. it has a little harder kick, a synth pad.,. but techno influenced hook.
or the new. Joel Mull - Harmonautic String
but this goes more into techno territory.
like what was stated.. taste really is subjective.
deep house would be waaay slower and groovier (for me)
