one thing i know about girls in the dance scene is they all follow hardcore, if u go to one of these events just see what the ratio is between male and female, if ur a bloke then u will love it! oh and the way they dress to these raves aint to bad either ;-)

Yep, and we'd better hang onto the "bloke" things, cos as soon as girls know how to wire plugs, do DIY and DJ they won't need us anymore...

We were even stupid enough to invent artificial insemination to seal our own fate!

Because they are Tom-boys for the most part

I thought they were lesbians?

Or is that just in hard dance circles (DJ Irene).

The reason why many girl don't dig wordless EDM is because they aren't exposed to it as much as we imo. From what I have seen most girls tend not to search for their music but rather listen to the radio/tv/whatever for the most recent hits. Of course there are a lot of exceptions but in general imo that's the tendency. We, on the other hand, when we like what we hear try to find more of it and eventually find stuff which aren't mainstream. Or at least in most cases is like that imo. Anyway....

Imo I think its a little more complicated than vocals. I think girls just like different styles of music different amounts. As people have said chicks dig minimal and hardcore... and I believe them.

Girls might not like epic trance but they still like tons of good music genres (like psytrance!)

Really good topic, and some great points. I've wondered this for years...
But also I've wondered why more guys don't like wordless music, because coming from a place where EDM was almost non-existant, I was still the weird guy who listens to wordless music to all the guys around me.

Honestly what I think it comes down to is that lyrics are familiar, because they are just words that we all use everyday. They are not foriegn, but rather they give the listener something to grasp onto, where they otherwise can not find their proper listening place in an edm song. For example, I get annoyed when certain edm vocals get in the way off intently concentrating on all the layers that are there, now girls, and my ex-girlfriend for example use the lyrics as a means to liking a song that they otherwisecould not fully appreciate. I introduced my ex-gf to edm and she simply can not listen to or appreciate the depth of the music I listen to.

So why do girls need something to grasp on to, or something to connect to? Like someone mentioned, edm is very disconnecting and I use it for exactly that reason. In my experiences girl do not like to, or are not able to lose control as well as guys. Perhaps it is that males tend to be more free-spirited in general, as in more open-minded, more thrillseeking and wanting the disconnect that edm can provide, because if anything lyrics can bring you back to reality.

I've had to learn how to properly get the most out of my edm listening, and I'm still learning how to space-out orget lost in new kinds of music that I just couldn't figure out before. This brings me to another topic that I've been comptemplating, what is it exactly that makes me love a 4/4 so much, deicdes that fact that I like dancing to it.

In my experience, people in general (both male and female) around the midwest tend to dislike music without lyrics, as it is often their first reason for not liking techno. I haven't noticed the trend to swing towards any particular gender.
