If there were a good alternative to TA, many of us would be elsewhere.

As much as I love trance "back in the day" and the collection of experienced ears that continue to post here, the site isn't really about trance anymore, and hasn't been for a few years now. Perhaps as an exercise in history and nostalgia, yes, but not as a voice for the present genre. So it's a bit meaningless to ask about opinions of trance in 2008, because TA isn't all that concerned with "trance" in 2008.

Barring any unlikely revivals, this trend will probably continue. I'd love to be excited about something new in trance, but it would take big changes in attitude and style for that to happen.

So I guess I like max uplifting trance, ultra synths, full stop long breakdown/build ups.

So all TA's with this taste probably would like them.
Obviously you're not one of them.

I don't mind them on occasion, but hearing them over and over and over again grows ridiculously redundant, predictable, boring, cliche, and poo.

That said, I found Menno de Jong's Intuition Sessions from last year one of the better trance sets I've heard in quite some time.

Maybe we should start using "Ancient Trance", just not to confuse TA's who even like 2008 Trance like me.

That has a certain air of dignity to it.

All I'm saying is that the trance of today is a minority taste on Tranceaddict, and has been for some time. That's a curious state of things.

Menno De Jong's "Intuition Sessions" was the last good prog/epic-trance i've heard (well, together with Cape Town's "Aviateur" album and possibly a few Daniel Kandi releases). It used to stand-out from the majority of 2007 releases (and possibly 2006 and 2005 as well!). Generally, the stuff on Intuition were quality.

I agree about Intuition Sessions, Menno often had interesting and nice tracks.

Nah. we can just call the proper new trance by it's name and for the stuff you're into, we'll call "dance" or "Van Trance" in hommage to the innovator of boredom

I can still find good trance sets and good trance tracks, it just takes more effort and they are fewer and further between. I would have to say that 2007 and 2008 are about the same as far as mostly fail. 2000-2005 are probably the best that I have heard. Off and on really even in there. My nostalgia for 2003 "As the Rush Comes" is strong though.
