Bush won the popular vote in 2004. In 2000 Al Gore won the popular vote but the supreme court handed Florida's delegates to Bush.
By and large, Bush won because enough people voted for him. This is not disputable, it's what actually happened.
Finally, I am American, and not all of us are dumb, and not all of us voted for bush, and not all of us think he was elected fairly (I happen to think that in the context of the election process, he was. Whether I agree that that process is fair is a different debate).
