Review part 2
Day 2: Day
Got to Hart Plaza and listened to Konrad black for a bit. However, I don't remember much of it. Hearthrob came on and laid out an amazing set. All his tracks were good. Im looking forward to seeing him again!
The guy looked very geeky!
Sadly, Carola couldnt make it out to DEMF and was replaced by Paco Osuna, which is a DJ I really wanted to see anyways. I am still kicking myself for missing him at CZ a while back. Paco dropped so many bombs during his set. Pure goodness. I wish the guy had some enthusiasm behind the decks. He looked pissed and/or unhappy the whole set. His set sure made up for that!!!
After chilling in the grass at the end of Paco's set, Magda came on and I rushed to meet up with Cribs and Vince at the front. She started out with trippy beats and sick bass lines. She's pretty cute and I love her lil smile. I really enjoyed the hour I saw of her. After that, I ventured out to the main stage for Mark Farina and sit down in the bowl.
Watched Farina for about 20-30mins and he wasnt doing it for me (surprising as I love him!). Came back to the beatport tent to catch the end of Magda's set. She was a lot slower at that time and didnt do it for me. Went back to the grass to chill and wait for the one and only Richieeeeeeee.
Richie was on fire again like the previous night. At least the sound was great this time around. The tent was overpacked so I enjoyed him from far away in the grass. DEMF needs to put him on the main stage for such a set!
After an hour of Hawtin's goodness, I took the risk to check out Carl craig on the vitamin water stage. He introduced himself for 2-3 mins and had some trippy sound playing in the back. I have to upload my vids of him soon. The bowl was at capacity and the circle around the bowl was also full. It was a great feeling to see such an atmosphere. He had quite a few guys with him: keyboard, sax, clarinet. The beats were quite enjoyable. However, I did not hear any bombs or tracks making the crowd going apeshit.
went back to the circle close to the beatport and watched the sketchy asian and listen to Hawtins. His last few tracks were . I want that track that some tribe is chanting in the back, soooo good. The crowd was NUTS
Day 2: After Party
After hawtin, we all regrouped and went to the hotel and prepare for the afterparty. Did some feet treatments as my legs were almost shut.. and we then headed to Tronic Treatment/radio school.
Outside st.andrews hall, rap music was playing...I was like WTF, they cancelled the event or what? So I take everyone to the back to the shelter's entrance and the door was opened. Walked up the stairs and got cribby a free entrance. Vince and I decided to go back to the front and get our bracelet or whatnot as we had already paid for the tix. Well, there were no bracelet, just a very frisk search
Inside, Voorn was playing good tunes on the top floor, and downstairs...well was just not doing it for me. And the strobe light....was enough to make everyone have a seizure! Also, it was very muggy, hot and stinky down there. As i thought Voorn was redeeming himself, he got trancy again Watched the end of his set from the balcony and Christian Smith got on(I think it was him). The beginning of his set was rather boring. It ended up picking up and got harder. The last 30mins was just bonkers and a massive tease with the buildups and bombs!
4AM rolled and we had to go. Back at the hotel, we watched Lockout on MSNBC for a second nite in a row. So fun to watch!
Day 3: Day
Being more rested than the guys, I decided to cross over to windsor for lunch with Andie to meet a friend we haven't seen in forever for sushi, yummyyyyyyyyy. On the way back, we got stuck in the tunnel for for 45mins (pple coming back from their holiday and rush time). We made it to the grounds just in time to catch some Lee Burridge in the BP tent. He was playing pretty good (much better than the time I saw him at Stereo in MTL). Lee was having a good time behind the decks and had his sketchy/random moments. After 30-45 mins, we moved over to the main stage for Grindvik. He was doing well. After Grindvik, I went to see Josh Wink. Wink was also good on the decks. Didnt think he was that tiny!
Wink's timeslot had lot of action on other stages that I missed I kept hearing about Cobblestone jazz and I didnt see them. Also, on the way back home, I listened to Derek Plaslaiko's RA set and love it. Another miss on my side.
Went back to Paul Ritch on the main stage and he was amazing. Just what I expected. During his set it rained for about 20 mins and it cooled down the sunday hotness. I definately want to see the guy again.
After Ritch, it was a no brainer to stick to the main stage (even tho I wanted to see Saunderson). Mulero was the hardest thing I have ever listened to. So good. They also put on a good light show while he was playing. To get an idea of Oscar's set, watch this video:

After mulero, speedy J came on and to a perfect level for a closing set. He was one of the guys I anticipated the most of the weekend because he rocked me so hard at Footwork a few months back.
Speedy was simply bonkers. Had me going apeshit and slapped the biggest grin on my face. I hope i didnt scare anyone with my smile lol
I have some vids of Speedy, but they are huge and my fav one...has sound issues, grrrrr
The visuals for speedy were great. At the end of speedy, we just stood there, in awe, not wanting to leave. We all wanted more!
Overall, DEMF was simply amazing and great value for the money. The friends and the new pple I met made it even better!
Things I have learnt from my first DEMF experience:
-Gas stations are quite the entertainment at night
-Halloween occurs on memorial weekend in the states
-Not buy after-party tickets online, just wait at the door
-buy shoe soles before the first day, not the last
-IHOP is the first and last stop one must do when going to DEMF
-Clubbing in detroit bars === grossss
DEMF 2009 cant come fast enough!! Best festival ever!
Paxahau, please book Tony Rohr and Liebing next year
Beatport, do a bigger sponsorship and take over the main stage
