Andrew Deutsch, a designer of interactive Web videos, swears that having a beard has changed his life, giving him an air of confidence. "I met my current girlfriend a week after I started growing my beard in November," Mr. Deutsch said. Now he finds himself constantly touching and stroking the beard, as if it were a talisman. "It's like a security blanket on my face," he said.

"Style has separated itself from viewpoint," said Tim Harrington, the lead singer of the rock band Les Savy Fav, who is known for his full beard and balding head. "This is not like when beards were worn by hippies. Now you pick a style for aesthetic reasons as opposed to a viewpoint. I wonder if beards can have the oomph they once had when it feels like someone will ask you: 'Where did you get that beard? Is that beard from Dolce & Gabbana?' "

but i'm almost certain if you took a poll and asked people their ages and what they listened to and found the bpms of those tracks, if you averaged them, it would be faster when younger and slower when older.

Well, to me, high energy doesn't neccesarily imply a high BPM. Any song can be high-energy so long as there is a lot going on with the melody and nice buildups and so forth. I wouldn't consider 5 minutes of some repetitive hardcore track high energy even if it was 160+ bpm. Then again, i suppose the "energy level" of a track is pretty subjective.

I've always liked slower bpm's ever since I was 15.

To be honest, I think you just came up a few years after the rest of us and kind of caught the "lower BPM" wave at a younger age - at least that's my current theory

Though I'll say that for me, anything over 135-138 even back in my trance crackering days was way, way too fast.

Eh, I do just as much E as when I listened to trance if not more. And music sounds just as good if not way fucking better

I think all this drug/music correlating is really dumb.

I don't think my preference in BPMs has changed at all. It's just that my tastes for electronic music have gotten a lot broader. I started out with just prog house, prog trance, and some epic trance, but eventually grew to like a bit of almost all electronic genres.

Although the BPM range for stuff I like has gotten a lot wider: I used to listen to stuff almost exclusively in the 125 - 138 range or so, but now I'll go both higher and lower than that.
