Sure, after they lied their way into the Olympics. I knew they were going to impress. Lots of money saved up from the profits made on the slave labour factories.

I have been to factories in China, and nobody is slave there. I asked them if they are slave and they said no, they said they are pretty happy with the job, work, pay, factory seniors, government and stable life. And I have visited many many factories in many different parts of China, I am not telling you this from one visit or meeting with one person. Go and ask people in China before you call them slave.

I wonder how much of that happiness is drilled into them via generations of social engenieering. Totalitarian regimes seem to have a habit of producing poor outcomes for their people, but then telling them that they live in paradise. Since people have lived like this their whole lives, they have no basis for comparison.

Thats not to say that this applies in your experiences.. Im sure there are factory workers in China who actually are happy.

This is one more misconception about China.. actually Chinese people are as consumerism driven as people in US are.. but everything comes so cheap there that you dont need awfull lot of money to buy what you want..

Yeah, and Chinese workers work no more than 44 hours and 5 days a week, made 30 gees a year, drive modern kickass cars and live in superb homes! Man, I wonder why we all dont move to China to work in their factories as great summer jobs!

If you think their factories are so great, why dont you and many Westerners go and work there! I bet you'll be able to afford some nice housing and benefits, too! Only as a manager, I suppose.

Chinese workers get paid low wages, get exploited and live in rundown flats. And worse. Same as countries like Bangladesh and Vetnam, and many others. The cost of a Nike shoe was, like 15 cents? Including the costs of wages to workers and managers? And how much Nike sells it for in our markets?

You get the idea.

I'm pretty sure most Americans WISH they worked no more than 44 hours a week 5 days a week and made 30k a year.

Heck, since January I've been working 55-65 hours a week. Last month I crushed my record with a 68 hour work week. That was intense. 2 jobs and always busy.

Yeah, well I am doing co-op and still have my previous part-time job (unspecified restaurant job) I work overtime with my environmental job every week, they love me, it seems. They pay me student rate - which is still much better than minimum wage!

Plus at home I cook, look after siblings, do DJ gigs / houseparties, look after my massive organic garden, etc. and on the forums.
