Yes, this is what I'll be doing.

Considering how thick you sound, now I'm glad you decided to shut up for this election.

I don't like how regularly politicians don't live up to their promises, how most of them will say any old fucking shit to get the votes and then throw those plans out as soon as they get in power. I don't like how my country has not become noticably any better in living memory despite a succession of elected leaders who are apparently trying to make things better, I don't like how the country will still be flawed and fucked no matter who gets in- it's just a question of which areas you don't really mind being fucked. I don't like the inescapable truth that most politically-motivated people won't admit: that most people vote for bullshit reasons and the candidate's charisma and performance in some shitty media circus events will usually make the crucial difference. I even don't like how the votes are tallied.

Fuck voting. And it's not that I don't keep up with these things. Politics is a circus. It's a sideshow, a delusion, a soporific that sedates the masses and lets them think they're going to make a genuine difference. And fuck all this "If everyone thought like you..." business. Not everyone will think like me. That's reality. Some of you will have disagreed with every word I've written and good for you. I'm glad some people are deluded enough to keep voting because at least then a semblence of democracy is retained and we'll avoid slipping into overt dictatorship. That's the one good reason to vote and since sufficient numbers of people are already doing so, don't ask me to bother.

What's your alternative to the contemporary democratic system we have?

As a result of the amount of silly baggage that surrounds each candidate this time around, the WHOLE idea of the election and voting just doesn't appeal to people.

STATS CAN knows how many ppl have the right to vote. They know how many didn't. Leave the math to them and shut up. Everyone has the right to freedom of speech but not all of them choose to spew out the amount of high-and-mighty BS that you do.

There is a difference in declining to vote and not voting.

Silly Baggage surrounds every election in every country. The fact that 58% of the people did vote shows that to the greater majority it does appeal to people.

I am not saying I am better then those who don't vote...I am saying they shouldn't be citizens of this country if they don't vote.

I think he's got a point in some ways. This country has so many people who moan about things, but won't do anything about it. Sure, voting for someone isn't the definitive answer but unless you make your opinions & voices heard, you should relinquish the right to the same opinion as those who tried & did their bit.

What do you think people think more about : what new car to buy or what candidate to vote for. I'd say the first, because they know it will influence their life. It matters. While they know that their vote does not matter a bit.

This is ignorant. The point made is very relevant and valid. In California there are something like 4-5 million people that are registered to vote that don't, and there are many more that aren't registered at all. And the fact that their vote doesn't count is horseshit. There are local issues that DO affect them that they need to vote on. Even if they don't vote for a candidate, they need to vote on local issues.

Chem: Please explain how signing in and not voting, is different than not going at all? There is no effect on anything. They don't give a shit about those that do this. They COULD have had an affect, but didn't.

I never said he was wrong or didn't have a point. Telling someone they shouldn't be a citizen because they didn't vote is slightly pathetic, slightly. If you're not into politics, don't understand it, don't follow it, don't agree with any of the parties...why are you voting? Regardless who wins you're going to have to adapt to his/her changes anyway, so whether you vote for someone you don't agree with and have to adapt or you don't vote and have to adapt...you're still going to go through the same shit. By voting to not vote, you're not voting. All you're doing is saying " I don't want to vote ", so am I. Only difference is you're putting yours on record and I'm not.

No, the difference is that one of them expresses your discontentment with the state of the system or the current choices. The other expresses your indifference to the democratic process. Or in other words, it doesn't express anything at all. If you're too lazy to fulfill your responsibility to vote, that's perfectly legitimate. Just don't pretend you're making some deluded point out of it.

It changes the statistics that are used. If you sign in and decline to vote it is registered as a declined vote but still shows up in the percentages for who voted. It also sends a message to the parties that people are not happy with any of the parties. Not voicing your opinion only tells the government that you don't care what happens in this country.....the parties use these numbers to help determine when to call an election. If a higher perfectage of people show they are willing to vote then the parties will have to listen to what these people want to get them to vote for them. If a high percentage are just not voting then the opposition parties will have a harder time deciding if they want to pass a non-confidence because for a majority of people that do vote they will vote the same way come the next election.
