A tip I learnt while working at Danier Leather:

Try white vinegar or a mixture of vinegar and water.
I havent tried it yet but Ive been told its safe on coloured suede.

Im going to give it a try in the next couple days on my black boots. Ill let you know how it works.

Or if you want to spend money go buy a suede shampoo. There are tons of them out there.

Also regardless of the method you try invest in a suede brush (worth about $10).

you know what, I bought one a while ago from ALDO - brush on one side, and a protector/groom stone kinda thing on the other.. and I find that the brush is too harsh, it pulls out "hairs" out of suede, and I don't like that

for now I just used a used dish washing sponge and warm water

but thanks for the tip regarding the shampoo! I'll check our nearest store

Windex and a toothbrush. It got my 4 year old Pumas looking brand new again. Weird.

Justin - well thanks that was very helpful I do have pairs of non-suede foot wear, but this was just a bad move on my part this Saturday - I didn't count on walking all the way from Yonge/College to John/Richmond
