I feel like I finally have to chime in.
All age’s parties are promoted a bit different than 21+ clubs.
I have to side with Josh on this one. This is a TEASER. The main point to this flyer is to get the date out and to get people to start talking about it. And, I think it's working wonderfully. Want proof? Just look at this thread.
HSII has been around since the mid 90's. It didn't start as a big as it is now. The brand slowly built to what it is now that people immediately recognize the name. So when the promoters get a date out people will start planning around it. Granted the line up is not announced, but at a party of this magnitude a line up is not needed on the initial flyer. People already know what to expect - world-class talent, and in some cases certain DJ's. People associate certain DJ's with certain massives. For example PVD with Monster Massive or Nocturnal, and in this case ATB with HSII.
Just like Josh said, the all ages crowd will eat it up quick without knowing the line up. I have friends that go to EDC & TAO without knowing who is playing. They went simply because it was EDC. These kids want an excuse to go out, and if a massive is going on, they'll go regardless because their options are pretty limited.
Another reason why promoters put out flyers with dates only is to let other promoters of your party on a certain date. That way, other promoters don't plan events around that date. I know I've done that.
In the 90's I used to do a party called FRISKY. It started as a warehouse party that later grew into a much bigger legal party. I used to do teasers like this all time, just to get the word out. But just like Audiotistic, it started out as an EDM event and later morphed into Hip Hop. The last event was mostly hip-hop, I made BANK on my last one. But, because for a while the scene was kind of odd, and I didn't want to promote hip-hop parties I decided to stop.
