I don't doubt that happens. It happens everywhere, with men and women.
That's totally not what I'm talking about though. It's funny how you seem to equate what I am talking about with being lazy though...no surprise I guess.
I'm not equating with laziness but rather poor/passive marketing.
I've seen far more skilled/talented female djs that haven't made it anywhere than the ones everyone in TO seem to love and admire.
And these women got gigs whenever they wanted....promoters willingly gave them opportunities..
In fact, I'm gonna be so bold to say that if I were a woman, I'd prolly already be big in the scene

Sometimes talented people decide it's not for them, male or female.
There's an element that works for you and against you as a woman in the scene - sometimes you get gigs because you're a chick and sometimes you don't. You have to accept that this happens and be okay with it.
I have personally found in the scene that there is more emphasis placed on personal appearance vs performance than in a regular day job. You have to be cool with dudes staring at you for several hours while you're trying to work. Some women may not be comfortable with this, no matter how much talent they have.

I actually read the whole thing and I think I deserve congratulations. I don't know why the bashing of top 40 clubs was in there or the feminist rant either.
Believe me, we may think the people in the top 40 scene are goofs, but they think the same about us.
Bahahaha +1. I'm not sure who's more obnoxious...feminists, or top40 bashing nubs. Ffs.

i thought so too...but its not like women are frowned upon as djs...in fact women are held high on a pedestal as djs....question is, in terms of skill which matters the most in the EDM community, where do they compare?
shit male djs dont get far either so its all fair
I LOVE seeing a good female DJ.....
It's a lot more fun watching them work...

There are some really talented female DJs but I can't think of many female Trance DJs that I would want to see and if you look at DJ Mag its mostly trance.
I think female and male DJs are on a level playing field when it comes to opportunities of making it internationally.
I think female DJs have one big selling feature...sex appeal. Unfortunately, I think some miss use that feature by parading around topless....but if used properly, it can really grow their fanbase.
I like DJ Irene and Lisa Lashes...
They both play hard trance which is even better...

I'm going to go so far as to say that if you had talent you'd be big in the scene. Its not about gender.
