Well God never wrote any of it obviously, but during mass we do say "The word of the Lord".

Still, that's more out of tradition than anything, and I think most people realize that it was people writing the stories down not God whispering them into peoples' ears or physically writing any of it himself.

How is that progress? That's what I've always known.

It doesn't mean that God never said those things to Moses, nor does it mean God never revealed himself to countless other prophets. It also doesn't mean that Jesus wasn't God etc.

Indeed, thus the whole "divinely inspired" description we affix to it.

Please alex..You embarrass yourself with nearly every sentence.

I love how you christians like to point to noble commandments given to Moses by a talking shrub..but you conveniently don't brag in the mass murder he perpetrated afterwards.. The God of the old testament was a nasty SOB wasn't he? Full of jealousy, encouraging his followers to commit genocide and infanticide..to destroy cities..to murder thousands of innocents...to rape and enslave women...the way he sent famine and plagues upon countless people who offended him.. How compassionate..How loving! I really like how you christians pick and choose what parts of the bible to follow and what parts to ignore.

I embarrass myself? You just don't get it. Any of it. You're a broken record and making increasingly less sense as you work yourself into a spitting rage at your lack of comprehension of the topic.

Your tactics are to insult, berate and point out things that have been explained a million times on these forums yet you ignore ALL of it and keep making an idiot of yourself.

You must have had a nasty Christian granny or something that gave your brother candy but not you. It seems to be the only explanation as to why you continue to ignore everything presented to you and continue on your ignorant and frankly offensive crusade.

You haven't presented or explained anything alex..ever. I asked if the bible was the word of god. You basically said, "Yep!..all the nice parts are..the rest is not divinely inspired and should be ignored."

Don't get angry when we point out that you've spun yourself into a convenient little web of cognitive dissonance.

???

Let me go back and find the exact quote I used.

quote:
Well God never wrote any of it obviously, but during mass we do say "The word of the Lord".

Still, that's more out of tradition than anything, and I think most people realize that it was people writing the stories down not God whispering them into peoples' ears or physically writing any of it himself.

Then I said:

quote:
It doesn't mean that God never said those things to Moses, nor does it mean God never revealed himself to countless other prophets. It also doesn't mean that Jesus wasn't God etc.

Hmm so where exactly did I say: "Yep!..all the nice parts are..the rest is not divinely inspired and should be ignored." ?

Is that what this is reduced to? I cant even call that a straw man dude, that shit is just an outright lie as to what I said just a few posts up. If you're going to read my shit wrong, fine, but don't try and completely change what I said only 4 posts ago in order to make me look stupid.

You really fail at this, but I suppose when you know next to nothing on the subject the best thing to do is to completely change what the other person said and roll with the lie

Pathetic.

alex, just pointing out how your kind tend to gloss over the nasty parts of your holy scripture...picking and choosing which stories to live your life by. Like most x-stians you brought up the story of moses and the commandments as an example of your faith, and ignoring all rape and murder that "god" commanded moses's followers to do a few minutes later. I just find it amusing.

You might enjoy these biblical quotes. They demonstrate "commandments" from god that christians don't brag about these days:

...

I didn't ignore anything. Do you really want me to post an exegesis on the entire Bible every time I mention ANYTHING?

There is an unbelievably simple explanation as to why God seemed like an "SOB". God ultimately created human beings, I don't believe it was 6,000 years ago nor do I believe the Genesis story as fact. However, if I believe that God created the universe and I agree that human beings are indeed a part of the universe then I must believe that God ultimately created human beings.

That brings us to divine providence. God gave out the commandments, one of which was do not murder. These commandments are for human beings to follow. Any action God chooses to do, whether it be spit on me or kill me, that cannot be seen as wrong to us because the same laws of morality, physics and practically any other law you can think of do not apply to God. He is not just a vastly more intelligent human being with super powers, he is everything. It is not up to human beings to question the actions or integrity of this said God because the same standards that apply to us mere mortals do not apply to him. It is impossible for God to be hypocritical, evil or menacing as these are traits attributed to free will given to human beings, which is simply not comparable to divine will or divine providence.

Also, you failed to address the fact that you misquoted me completely and lied about what I said. Care to apologize?
