For others, recording hardware they will often have to go lower but going higher just proves that u have shit hardware, wrong drivers or using it all wrong (see knowledge).

But with high latency you don't have to wait when you push play. It has no effect on that. And if it was really the case that 512 is the most a person will ever need, then they wouldn't take their time out to specifically program higher latencies into the drivers.

but if its like you say that the more latency the better sound + that the latency does not affect playing midi why does the soundcards have the option to increase latency? shouldnt it just be.... max?? so obviously latency-adjustment is there for a reason, both you and I should agree on that, and its not audio quality, it obviously has to do with computer-power? the bader computer the longer latency u have to set to be able to make sound at all.

First, its not a lie, it has 0 effect. When I push play in the sequencer to when I hear sound, is exactly the same no matter what the latency is. Interesting huh?

As for the rest, If I have a PC Rack with equivalent to 128 GB RAM and 8GHZ Processor, and its set to 512 latency, and I have 400 instances of z3ta run...and it still popes [it will]...will you say that is a "bad" computer? I wouldn't.

Also, don't confuse audio quality with render quality. The higher is generally better. This is why you use 512 instead of 64. But render quality has nothing to do with latency.

That's called latency compensation. While the latency is actually there you won't visually get to see it (locator starts moving after the latency time interval has passed, while it's actually already processing the audio before it starts moving). There should be a notable pause between the time you press play and when the track actually starts playing as well. Try recording live while playing, that should be fun. The latency will be painfully obvious.

1. Maybe ur adjusting the latency of a diferent soundcard

2. No thats bad common sence of usuage as I also mentioned as a reason why ur having problems

3. We did never talk about rendering. I use 512 instead of 64 only for one reason, this way I can surf the internet, talk on MSN, read mail, watch a movie, while making music. Its simply to save CPU, NOT to improve soundquality (or render lol).

You probably dont have the power to run a SINGLE instance of it, but you are able to barely manage to run that ONE SINGLE instance in DRAFT mode with latency a that grows mustaches.

Yeah, I know. I have used a midi keyboard to input notes using a 3rd party metronome. At 2048 samples. Some times I drop it to 64 samples to hear what I am playing for a change. I can usually do an instance or two of z3ta at 64 without problem. Any more and it starts to pop.

Eddiezilker, I didn't change the subject, DJ RANN did. He reacted to my comment, thus getting us into a latency discussion. Maby he should close his mouth next time and just take it when people talk about him. Blame his reaction on it, not me. He wasn't obedient.

Palm, you use 512 to save CPU? Why? If latency doesn't effect sound quality, you should be able to use 64 and still browse the net and all that stuff.

Subtle, No.

So this has been another latency discussion where no one said anything that suggest high latency is bad. *Sighs*
