Ha, I was at the Works. Kinda pissed cause it was in the middle of Aril Brikha's set (and my 1st time seeing him too). Have no clue why it was shut down by the cops.

Sorry this took so long. I was thinking about writing a long review for this, but couldn't be arsed this time.
The Good:
- Octave One's set in the Made in Detroit stage - Best set and experience of the fucking festival. Hard, relentless Detroit techno in a hot, sweaty, smokey, underground stage, with concrete floors, walls and ceilings, surrounded by hardcore ravers. They played a fierce set that matched the raw environment perfectly. I've never experienced an atmosphere like that in my life, and probably never will again.
- Loco Dice vs. Luciano on the Main Stage - Great set from these 2, and concert-like atmosphere with crowd surfing and the whole bowl going crazy. DEMF magic at it's best.
- Main stage vibe during the headliner slots, on all 3-nights.
- Vastly improved stages and production.
- Hotel room shenanigans with Gera the merman.
- Having a great crew out, and having a great time with friends.
- Everyone in Detroit, including DEMF staff and Marriott staff being absolute shambles all weekend.
- Police in Detroit (cops hugging ravers, cops watching over the bowl, dancing and fist-pumping)
The Bad:
- VIP passes - so not worth it in my opinion. The drinks are only 2/3 the size of regular drinks, if not less. The amount of alcohol in it is probably $5/drink, so 15 x $5 = 75, plus $50 for the pass is $125. So basically you're paying an extra $25 for the washrooms. This would be worth it, except for the fact that every time you want a drink, you have to go aaaaaallll the way up to the VIP area to get a drink. This alone makes it not worth it to me, even if the drinks were regular size. I don't think I'd get it again.
- Port-a-potties: Wow. Some of those things were an abomination of human life.
- 3 levels of security at the Marriott - Give me a fucking break. Making me show my key card 3 times on the way up was quite unnecessary.
The boat: Well, it wasn't bad, but it was disappointing. Very empty. I really wish I had chosen one of the many other great afterparties that were happening in the city such as Beretta or Jeff Mills. I heard many other afterparties got shut down really early though. I wonder if this is a new trend at DEMF?
The Ugly:
- Detroit: I have no desire to go to this city outside of DEMF. It's so bad, that I'm not even sure if I'll be going to DEMF again any time soon. Horrible food, abandoned buildings, poverty and desperation everywhere. There's absolutely nothing to see outside of DEMF. DEMF is getting more expensive each year, and it makes me wonder why I'm not saving this money on a real vacation. DEMF is an A-class festival. It rivals, and is even better than a lot of the festivals I went to in Europe. However, If I'm going to spend several hundered dollars on a vacation, I want something else besides a party and a ghost town. Mutek for me next year I think.

Fishbones in greektown was quite nice i found.
In terms of Detroit decaying....i saw less of it this yr as i didnt have to travel to afterparties and travel to the hotel.
I am still curious at venturing and seeing the rawness of detroit...but that'd require bodyguards and bulletproof vests.
The gang unit on the grounds certainly made it sketch! Altho i wanted to chat it up with them (i watch too much docus like Gangland, Ross kemp on gangs, lockdown and prison shows)
The marriot was worth the extra cash this year, split 5 ways was nice. Altho the booze on the grounds ripped me a new one.
$500 for the weekend is not too bad. Thats counting the expensive boat cruise and the wkend ticket. Still much cheaper than minitek (was like $800 and barely had any music)
