"Jewish" means a nationality rather than a specific country. Identifying what country was the Jew born in doesn't make a difference. There are few pure Israeli Jews. More like Russian Jews, German Jews, American Jews but it still implies that you have Jewish roots. Cosmopolitism. So enjoy eating a dick for breakfast, suskipunk
p.s. really dude. stop being an annoying prick. get a fucking life.

Unless your mom is Jewish, you've really no business identifying yourself as such.

Jewish, unless I'm mistaken, implies that the person is a follower of Judaiism, no?
"Nationality" on the other hand, implies belonging to a 'nation', ie. a country.

Jewish can also refer to a Semitic person. It would be like if 'negro' was a religion as well as a race: the term could still be used to talk about dark-skinned people living in America.

No. Read below

Not necessarily. "Jewish" is just like abstract "Caucasian", "Arab" etc. It means you have Jewish roots, whatever those Jews were. It does not strictly mean being cut and reading a Torah.
Are we finished?

I must be mistaken then. That's ok, I'm wrong plenty of the time.
I'm curious as to where this 'abstract Jewishness' comes from though. Surely from Judaiism?

most probably that 25% you say is extremley diluted. Sure you're probably also egyptian or arab as the original ashkenazi. Seeing that your mom is ukranian are you telling me that through 10,000 years of generations your paternal side continued to mate with ahkenazi's up until the generation before you? I find that highly unlikley. The truth is Judaism is a faith, and although its frowned upon for people to convert you still do have converts. There are indian chinese and Ethiopian jews as well. IF your dad is ukranian and your mom is ukranian, i would say its safer to say that you are ukranian rather then of ashkenazi jew decent. GEnetically it sounds more logical. You are jewish meaning you follow the jewish faith.
Otherwise everyone else here might as well say "oh i'm part nambian from africa"
of course thats where we trace back some of the first human tribes lol.
So you can try as hard as you can to conserve that 2% ashkenazi in you unless you have confirmation from your paternal side that they solely mated with ashkenazi's, your far from 25% original jewish tribe. It would probably be safer to say that you are of the jewish faith, then the original jewish people.

lol he thinks he's being a prick because he has no evidence that he is fully linked back to the original ashkenazi's. And that being simply of the faith is somewhat seemed as subordinate to him.
I think sushi raised a logical question. I would like to find out why alot of jews think like this as well. They consider themselves more of a race then a relgion. I would like to hear a good explanation behind the reasoning instead of bantering and insulting people for raising the question as boris is doing.
